Whom exactly is 'they', that 'sucked what they could out of directories and are gone now' ?

a guy comes back from a long layoff his thread is hijacked and the inlaws are fighting already, just shows how boring this place is at times

there are people who threw money at their directories to gain pr through templates, sitewides etc then reaped the rewards from submitters..until their high profile tactics brought it to the attention and google intervened and punished most of us

Dont forget that those people also spent thousands on the little guys that where coming up
and new, and sponsoring templates was a good way of gaining TRAFFIC and also Sales not to mention
PR that was just fine back then. Then One day Google flips the script and starts there No follow crap and its
there fault? Why becuase others couldnt afford to pay attention let alone sponcer a template then cry foul...

Come on you know better then me that thats bullshit... We only sponsored 1-2 templates at best but sure that
the penalties where traced by the footer links in templates, with the sponsors getting slammed (penalized) and
penalty dependent on number of templates they sponsored (the more they did the worse the penalty they got)

so let me get this straight..
you also think that there were no webmasters who used directories to make money quickly by buying themselves pagerank and selling it on and when google penalised their site they moved onto something else.

like I already said that if you are so blind to see that this has already happened well its not up to me to enlighten you.
open your eyes, read the past threads and maybe you will learn something for yourself.

 

I think you will find that most webmasters who`s directories where penalised NEVER moved on and they still run their directories to this day. Me included

 

This place is definitely looking better recently!

they were out for themselves

I have known for a long time that the practice of buying yourself pagerank was risky.
google didnt do anything overnight with directories and if anything they let it run on so long that everyone was starting to think hey if he isn't being penalised then i'm gonna try.
(I don't buy the argument that most people offering templates were doing it for traffic either)
check some of the old templates and the anchors used..web directory etc
