Just a quick tip for people trying to get their site's optimised. Obviously you want to have the content of your site optimised for search engines, but as well as this you have to make sure you develop a strategy to be always adding new fresh content to your site as that is what search engines are looking for. SO if you come in with a enw site one day with 20 fresh pages, then you never update it over the next 5 years, it's unlikely it's going to stay up top. Engines are always looking for the newest, freshest content so make sure you'r always adding new content that is user friendly but also optimised. Just something I had on my mind that I wanted to share with anyone trying to get ranked.
I don't think so. Some old sites, which never changed for years, still rank #1, for good keywords. Do you mean just minor changes on current page will also be treated as new content? Google has shown many news links on 1st page if top 10 links are stable for years... you just cannot expect a homepage of a big site change all the time.. By the way, Google rank on pages, not site, right?
not realy true. Depends on the niche, some niches dont have sited that get updated regular, they dont have a problem. I think if its a blog then that would be expected to be updated fairly often.
There is one page that is consistenly ranking number one for a keyword I want and they havent updated since 2005. Also, it is a free angelfire page with little content. I don't understand google sometimes.
Some sites are going to stay top for things that aren't going to change, but for sites that have information on topics that are always coming up with new information, it's essential to keep producing fresh content. Plus fresh content on your site isn't going to hurt aslong as it's relevant and good quality.
The more often you update fresh content the more often Google will index your pages, however this does not guarantee a higher page rank, just indexing more often.
