AdSense vs. affiliate programs

I have a new site http://designerhandbags.name

I am currently getting traffic from search engines, and I also have a couple of affiliate links to Commission Junction shops.

I am just wondering, if I should focus on only AdSense or only on my affiliate programs ?

Which do you think pays the most, if my AdSense CTR is about 4% ?

 

Decide from where you can make more $, and stay on that.Is this so hard ?

 

Try to compliment one with the other. You could write an article on how to choose the perfect handbag and inside the article you could post your affiliate links and then place your adsense blocks (maybe one on top, one on bottom and one on the side of the article).

 

I would use both. On your description page for each purse, I woudl add a buy now link (afilaite), and I would add a nicely blended AdSense add either on the left navigation, or under your "ssubmit" button.

Of course, don't forget an ad link at the top of your navigation: those do very well.

 

try a week with each program, after trying all programs use the one you earned most with, but with adsense test a little longer, cause smartpriced kicks in after a while

 

Actually Adsense is automatic. You place it where you want and leave it there. It's the content that you change so often whether it be affiliate programs or not. So use them both and set-up, then optimize.

I rather build a list.

 

I ran commission junction for about a year and even with a 10% click thru rate for a product I made $0. I think I had overall about 63,000 ad impressions for various things. With AdSense I make hundreds with that many impressions.

The reason is simple: affiliates tend to require action in order to be paid. With AdSense all your visitors have to do is click.

I know of an affiliate program for an adult site that had about 6000 signups which resulted in $1500. That works out to about $0.25 cents per action. That's less than I make with AdSense per click on average. And who knows how much money was spent to get that much publicity to make the $1500.

So basically you just need to keep good records and do the math.

 

Well google will obviously pay you per click, where as the affiliates will pay you per sale.

Pros of adsense:
Pays per click and impressions

Cons of adsense:
May not pay much per click


Pros of affiliates:
When it pays, it pays big

Cons of affiliates:
Don't get paid unless you get a sale.

 

I would recommend using both. Sine your site is about specifc product, handbags, it would make sense to find related affiliates. Adsense could alos be on the site, a sthey are likely to provide lots of relevant ads. Its upi to you which program you emphasise more. I guess this could be decidded upon after some testing.

 

I tried both on one of my sites. To a large extent, the equation changes depending on the commission that you get paid by the affiliates. Another factor is the visitir profile. Are they interested in information or are they interested in a transcation. The keywords that the users are using can give you an idea of this. Looking at your site name and the fact that most users are coming from search engines, I'd guess most users are interested in a transaction (This is a wild guess). If that's the case, you may want to find the affiliate that pays the most (and has high eCPM) and make it easy for the user to complete the transaction. Good luck.

 

Let them compliment each other, according to what content is showing.
i.e. reviews = affiliate, genral articles = adsense.

 

I think you should do both, you should never put all your eggs in one basket, I am a great believer in creating multiple income streams.

use both it is easier to earn from adsense though as you only need a click to earn , while CJ you will have to have a sale to earn.

 

I use both. Historically, the Associates programs have actually earned me more. Not sure if that's a surprise or not. I await to see whether my new look site makes a difference to that.

I'm also giving Amazon associates new Omakase self-optimising product boxes a try. Seems to pull good relevant stuff so far.

 

In my opinion, Just concentrate on Adsense...
becoz, make a sale is hard...(just my sincerely opinion)

 

Yeh, I've made much more money through adsense, in a much shorter time than any other affiliation programme i've been with.

 

Adsense is nice because you can essentially set it and forget it.

Affiliate marketing requires a bit of pre-selling, but there's fewer restrictions on inducing the prospect.

I'm hearing rumors that Google is toying with CPA models, possibly to combat click fraud. I don't know if that would affect Adsense...God, I hope not.

 

I'ld suggust Adsense!

 

in my opinion it all depends upon the location of your visitors and sontent on site; if your target audience is from north america and europe then affiliate programs might pay you a lot but if your audience is in Asia esp south asia and its neighbouring countries and middle east there is much lesser chance for affiliate programs and adsense would pay!
but its better to use both; you can use affiliate links in related articles or use their bannmers as alternate to avoid PSAs.
