How to promote a blog?

I have a blog of mine which is already indexed in Google. I don't know any idea about the promotion of blog.

Can anybody please tell me the good ways to promote a blog?

My number one promotion technique is video blogging on youtube. I then embed the videos into my blog, so the videos serve a dual purpose - to help drive traffic to my sites and as content for the site.

Besides youtube, I use a site called tubemogul to blast my videos out to 9 more hosting sites. So when I release a video, its posted on 10 different sites at one time.

Youtube is my sites #2 source of targeted traffic with only an 18% - 28% bounce rate, and my sites #4 - #5 source of traffic. At one time, youtube sent my sites as much traffic as Yahoo.

If your a blogger, and your not video blogging, your falling behind your competition.

 

You can submit your blog to web directories, blog directories and post comments on other related blogs, making sure that your comments are not spammy though.

What you asked how to promote a blog, is similar question like ask how to promote a website. Most people will probably straight think of SEO, SEM, Social Media Marketing, Link Building and so on. Yes to me those are just technics, online strategy involve, and all of these are the essential marketing process for any website.

For me I will think of what is my blog niche and how can I create a more attractive topic/content on my blog post. If you have good topic for instance a niche tutorial on the post, many people will bookmark it, digg it, post comments. The traffic will rise for sure. A good example for Matt Cutt blog, I doubt he did a lot of marketing effort to promote on his own blog, perhaps he is just focusing on create a good and niche topics and content, write it with the facts. The popularity rise and the traffic rise.

 

Yep get a copy of Onlywire or look for some cool social bookmark lists out there and then go for it. Quite easy really. The thing about Social Bookmarking is that if you get your target Title right and tag it properly you will get quite quick traffic.

Write for sites or blogs that are based on a similar topic to your own. I've found that this is a good way to raise your profile.

 

Put your site in

1. social bookmark sites like Digg,twitter,diigo, SU etc.
2. Directories
3. your niche related Blogs (do blog comment posting)
4. Submit articles to e-zine and other good article directories
5. Put a image/logo of your site in the forum signature
6. Buy some top banner ads in high traffic sites (I suggest free directories because they have constant and good traffic)

Submit to web directories, comment on other blogs (relevant to your niche), add new content, link exchange, etc..

Once you start getting visitors, do not stop updating your blog regularly. ALWAYS update your blog (1 post a day is good).
