Ok I have tried to keep out of direct confrontation but What's the point!
    Hezbollah are either
    a. terrorists
    b. an accepted face of the political set up in the lebannon.

It is well known that they are part of the countries government, so tell me, what kind of government kidnaps soldiers and then tries to negotiate? I will tell you who, HEZBOLLAH, these are the people who set up The Revolutionary Justice Organisation and the Organisation of the Oppressed Earth, which seized Terry Waite. TERRY WAITE an emmisary of the Arch Bishop of Canterbury who was in the country doing only good to anyone.

The reality is that Hezbollah and the lebanese government are one and the same, and, as Tony Blair stated in his press conference. " we can plan whatever peace moves we like, but if Hezbollah refuse to recognise us, then it is all in vain". Hebollah will IMO continue to fight, as they always have, and they will not rest until the state of Israel is no more! This of course is NEVER going to happen, so it means there will likely never be peace in that region.

He is left with no other choice but to support Hizbulla. Since Israel started its campaign 19 days ago, he has been calling international community to stop the campaign and to find a way ti disarm Hisbulla. But, not be nobody offered help.

As the president of Lebanon he should be supporting Hizbulla, rather than supporting Israel army killing innocent civilians in hundreds and destroying Leabese infrastructure.

I was not surprised when he told Dr. Rice to stay away from Lebanon. This is not the time for useless talks, it is time for action.

    Bullshit..
He had a choice to take actions against Hezbollah muzahiddin's terrorists, which was the right choice and ofcourse he didnt do it.

When those terrorists kidnapped Israeli soldiers what the hell lebanon did to stop the conflict?? Nothing.

What do you expect from Israel? To sit back and relax while watching yet another beheading video of it's soldiers?

Sorry!! India might do it but Israel is not of the same kind.
I wish I would have born as an Israeli. At least I could have said that our govt has balls to save the nation's pride.

This must be your openion on this matter.

No, not at all. There action did not surprised me. It is always their goal to kill as many muslims as possible whether they are civilians or not. They wai for a chance. Kidnapping of 2 soldiers is not = killing 1000 civiliance and destroying the infrastructure of the country.

Absolutely. Israel is different. For them, killing a person is just nothing.

Actually if Israel keeps it up, the rest of the middle east is going to stop standing by and start taking action.

And if mr saudi arabia comes to lebanons aid against israel, you can bet mr george bush will be hiding his tail between his legs

Hezbollah - or Party of God - was conceived in 1982 by a group of clerics after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. It was formed primarily to offer resistance to the Israeli occupation, and became the region's leading radical Islamic movement, determined to drive Israeli troops from Lebanon. Inspired by the success of the Iranian Revolution, the party also dreamt of transforming Lebanon's multi-confessional state into an Iranian-style Islamic state. Although this idea was abandoned and the party today is a well-structured political organisation with members of parliament.

In May 2000 - due partly to the success of the party's military arm - one of its main aims was achieved. Israel's battered and bruised army was forced to end its two-decade occupation of the south.

They have embraced the Palestinian cause and has said publicly that it is ready to open a second front against Israel in support of the intifada.

Hezbollah's political rhetoric has centred on calls for the destruction of the state of Israel. Its definition of Israeli occupation has also encompassed the idea that the whole of Palestine is occupied Muslim land and it has argued that Israel has no right to exist.

Hezbollah's current spiritual head Sheikh Fadlallah is close to Iran The party was long supported by Iran, which provided it with arms and money. In its early days, Hezbollah was close to a contingent of some 2000 Iranian Revolutionary guards, based in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, which had been sent to Lebanon in 1982 to aid the resistance against Israel. As Hezbollah escalated its guerrilla attacks on Israeli targets in southern Lebanon, its military aid from Iran increased.

The movement also adopted the tactic of taking Western hostages, through a number of freelance hostage taking cells: The Revolutionary Justice Organisation and the Organisation of the Oppressed Earth, which seized Terry Waite. For many years, Hezbollah was synonymous with terror, suicide bombings and kidnappings. In 1983, militants who went on to join Hezbollah ranks carried out a suicide bombing attack that killed 241 US marines in Beirut.

They have operated with neighbouring Syria's blessing - with the guerrilla war against being a card for Damascus to play in its own confrontation with Israel over the occupation of the Golan Heights. Over the two decades, Hezbollah evolved into a movement with thousands of trained guerrillas, members of parliament and a dynamic welfare programme benefiting thousands of Lebanese.

Hezbollah proved to be a formidable fighting force
It was passionate, demanding of its members and devoted to furthering an Islamic way of life.

In recent years, Hezbollah has won considerable backing within Lebanon. Its social services programme was popular with the Shia community.

While, the US listed the group as a terrorist organisation, the government in Beirut declared it a national resistance movement.

Its popularity with the Shia community - which makes up almost 40% of Lebanon's three million people - was confirmed in the 1992 parliamentary elections when Hezbollah led a successful campaign and won eight seats in parliament.

In June of last year they took ALL 17 seats in Southern Lebanon making them the ONLY party within the governemnt representing the area. They won the election with 80% of the votes.

The information for the above is from the BBC, I have re-written it and removed some boring non relevant stuff from the original article.

Surely now ANYONE must accept that you can not separate Hezbollah from the Lebanese government, thus making the lebanese government a terrorist.

Here is the thing though, Security Council resolution 1559 demands the withdrawal of all non-Lebanese (ie Syrian) forces and the disarmament of militias - a clear reference to Hezbollah and Palestinian guerrillas. The UN has declared Hezbolah to be an ilegal militia, and has demanded its disarmenment. Now I know that Israel mitself has also broken FAR more Un resolutions that Iraq ever did, but you have to see it from all sides if we are debating.

Sorry for the length of the post :(

THIS is the sort of talk that totally gets me wound up. This is NOT about christians and Muslims, and it is comments like this which feed the fire of religious hate. It is PURELY about land!
I also agree with yoyo that Saudi are posturing and it is going to be VERY difficult should they fall on the side of the Lebanese!
