Check out Microsoft Notepad. It doesn't have many features, but you can use it anywhere, as long as you know web design. :D

That was a horrible suggestion to a beginner webdev :p

Everybody needs to start with frontpage / dreamweaver / some GUI editor to understand the concepts of design, how things are layed out and how HTML works.

NO ONE needs to start with FrontPage, NO ONE should ever use FrontPage.

Ok maybe not frontpage, but an equivalent. They need to learn the concepts of tables, stylesheets, basic tags and stuff like that before they can start in notepad.

You need to learn the fundamentals of math before you can do algebra.

I understand your point, but seeing the code helps most people understand it a whole lot more.

    Another anti-FrontPage webmaster!

I learned with just notepad in a matter of days with only about an hour a day when I was a really young kid.

This at least how I learned, and how i highly reccomend others to learn.

Design pages in eg: frontpage. (DESIGN VIEW)

Get used to how things fit together, and depend on eachother

Slowly try to tweak things without the gui (CODE VIEW), but still using the design view mostly

Try to duplicate things you were able todo in the design view, using the code view

This way, people understand what the code does, but adding it themselves, yada yada yada

I was 13ish years old? I use nothing but notepad now, yes, but everybody needs to start small. Baby steps.

I learned when I was about 11-12 with notepad, so basically, it depends on the person. It all depends on how you learn best

Trust me, having a browser and a notepad is all you need to learn HTML if you're serious. :)

There are many free graphics software out there, but it depends really on your goals and needs! I find Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash are the best ones... but you can go with http://www.gimp.org/ for graphics it's FREE...
