Blog Text Header or Image Logo?

Discussion in 'Google' started by Argentum, Jul 2, 2009.

In terms of SEO, is it better to have a TEXT header title or a banner image logo (no text) for the header of a blog...??

I remember reading that a text header title is better for SEO..

However I am surprised that ALL the big blogs (even the biggest theme designer's sites) have a banner as header, and no text header title at all... which makes me wonder...

Yes, text header is better - at the very least if you use an image put some text in the alt tag...

Ok.. however ALL the big theme designers have an image banner in their main sites... I am really confused, because these blogs are known for having huge amounts of SE traffic... I know that a lot of factors are taken in consideration, but text header is important as far as I'm concerned...

    check sites like themeshaper.com, copyblogger.com, wpdesigner.com, wpthemedesigner.com

ALL of them have Image logos.. and they are theme designers...

Yeah I know that it looks more professional... but are you able to sacrifice SE traffic for a good looking banner??

I think I'm missing something here...

Since most of the headers use H1 tag, it helps the SEO.
But using image with proper tagging can do the trick too.

I think so too, text is better than the image logo.
if you're going to use image logo for your blog try to add "alt" tag on the image.

    for ex:
    <img src="urlofyourlogo.jpg" alt="TITLE OF YOUR BLOG" />

you can use your header as link to homepage with alt tag for image and title tag for href and this is almoas as good as a text header

That's where you need to make the call between pleasing the search engines and the visitors.

Stop worring about it.. if you want an image on your blog in the header, use an image. Just add alt and title, and then you can also add the text you were going to use elsewhere in the template in a heading tag. Simples really, and its not an issue that will affect your serps to any noticeable degree anyway.

There are some themes and design options in Wordpress that allow you to still have the text in the header but hide it under the image. Check out mine: http://halifaxrealestatebroker.com I just put the text that you see there in the image before I uploaded it. Cheers!

Majority of the people prefer to put good logo or design, simply to make the page appear more attractive!

You anyway have lots of text to put into a page and that can effectively handle the SEO part....I guess!
You got to make your site attractive too, to please the visitor and the header logo is the first thing a visitor lays his eyes on. You got to have a very good first impression! :)

How about an image, and text? You could have the text somewhere lower down in your header, as well as the image.

Then you have the best of both worlds.

A nice H1 tag is probably best but an image with a decent alt tag is acceptable too.

If a site becomes popular enough then it wont matter that an image logo is used.

Remember that google suggest making a site for the users, if users like a good looking image logo it makes sense to have one in place instead of a text header.

Theres so many factors that influence SEO, many things we will never even know about so i think an image logo is fine.
