I have an upstart automotive website that has been getting some good attention lately. I suppose people like my articles. Mazda (the automaker) wants to use a tagline from one of my articles talking about one of its cars. I have posted their request below. My problem is that I don't know how to respond to the request? Could I get some money if I grant them permission to use the tagline? How should I respond to it? Your help will be appreciated.
Ask for a link to your site in exchange for the use of the tagline. That will benefit you over time without having to come up with a price.
... approval by June 23rd and posted here a week later... I know stuff like this is easy to overlook in a crowded inbox, but if possible, I'd be a bit quicker about responding and building a relationship. If you haven't replied yet, do so right away and give them permission to give you a nice backlink. If you get any more of this sort of thing you can set up a little section on your site, "As Featured on... " etc.
I was bit worried that I had responded to the its request too late, but after putting the suggestions you guys offered to work, I received the following email: But I don't think that would be sufficient. Wouldn't it more useful to have it to show my website name [AutoTribute] with a link? What do you guys think? Looking at MazdaUSA's website, I don't think there is room my site on it.
I would take the link the way they are asking about it. Or ask them to give you a link with an anchor text you want to be found for on Google.
She just told me that she couldn't give me a backlink. I'm going to ask her what she has in mind in terms of an exchange...
Sometimes using the word 'backlink' puts the big companies off. You should perhaps be more polite in your request. Ask them for some reference to your site included anywhere on their site...even by way of some good review which you would be ready to write for them! Regards, RightMan
I would have started with a Mazda and worked my way down from there lol. Branding and copywriting is important stuff at that level They will likely make a a bit of cash off said tagline. Its pretty good. Nigel
Whay not ask them to publish the entire article (with some anchor text links) on their site ... or ask them to take an ad on your site.
I wrote the article, but all Mazda wants is that one tagline. But all doesn't matter now - I don't think its on speaking terms with me anymore. I've tried to contact the company, but to no avail.
Sorry to hear that. But you have exceed the due date which is 23rd june. That why they no reply to your email.
