A lot of people are reading that about directory submission, some are even believing it. Why don't you try it for a site yourself and see if the activity managed to affect the site's rank.

I always see positive results from directory submissions (not done using software).

Back links always works but the main reason is that it is taking long time for free directory submissions, taking more than 6 months to get listed in those directories...

I'm quite agree with You and I like Your answer. I have read much about such called directory submission. Most of them were negative articles, but in my practice I saw that nothing will be equal with dir. submission, especially iff it is a new site.

I came to a great success only with the help of dir. submission.

To improve keyword position it helps but to gain PR, it doesn't helps. Bcoz, now a days most of the directories doesn't maintaining quality, doesn't have any PR and just building directories to earn money with advertising or paid inclusion.

But, the listing from high quality directories like Dmoz, yahoo gives high priority to get PR as well good keyword position in the SERP.

    All the best...

Directory submission can be helpful to some extent. Google will still recognize links in respected & relevant directories. Obtainting links from a lot of general web directories no longer do much for your website. You will benefit more from a focus on niche directories and the high PR directories. Also, getting links from .Org and .Edu websites will be much more helpful.

If five similar sites are all sell the same items and similar content, have the same industry and other backlinks, blogs, etc., then I will assume the one with more links (even directories) would come up as the next SERP ranking criteria.

What everyone seems to forget is that directories are treated the same as any other site by Google. Some directories are crap and get treated that way by the search engines. Other directories are well edited and provide Google very useful information as to the core sites within a niche. If you can get listed in one of the better directories it really helps your SERPs. If you get listed a thousand crappy directories it you won't see a difference in your SERPs.

I think directory submission especially for a higher PR it can help website rankings but other says directory submission is a low quality of link and that is true but more directory to submit the more backlinks to get.

Back link is always a back link, its doesn't matter its a directory or a website. If google has indexed that specific pages of directory, links would be counted.
