Number of Articles

I am trying to get an idea of how many articles we need to produce and publish to help get on the first page of google for a competitive keyword (796,000 results with about 70,000 searches done a month). English, in the US.

I want to hear from people who have produced and posted articles before:

1) About how many articles should be produce (30, 50, 100?)
2) How many article sites should each article be submitted to?
3) Assuming each article has two links, how many total links should we have?
4) Would it help to post the articles anywhere besides article websites?

Assume all of the articles are of high quality written by someone with a college degree in the US.

796,000 results doesn't sound to comptetive to me.

It's not just about articles either. Currently for 2 of my sites I haven't used any articles and I'm on the first page. I've just posted relevent comments on other blogs and forums and linked back to my site. 1 example having 5,120,000 results and I'm #9 and another with 11,200,000 results and I'm #2.

 

Problem is how to produce so many quality articles.

 

The problem is how to post the articles. Is there a good software that can post the same article to many sites with one click?

 

The answer is unfortunately 'as many as it takes'! Write say 10 quality articles and submit them to loads of different sites. Niche article directories and sites in your niche that are asking for contributions are probably your best bet. Watch the results and rinse and repeat. It all depends on the quality of the sites you get your links from, and the amount of links your competition have. It could be 20 or 2000!
