Is it bad for SEO if I'll post my links in the signature?

I kept reading articles and threads around here, and I saw that allot of people where saying that one should never post a link to his side on the forum, because there are allot of chances that this forum will appear higher in google when searching for my site. Does this apply if I post the link in my signature?

There's nothing blackhat about posting anchor text links from your forum signature. In fact you should.

However, if the topic is irrelevant to your website, the backlink won't do much good.

The best part about these high rankings is that you can be seen as an expert in your field if you post in your keyword related forums.

As Chris mentioned, if your site in not related to topic of the threads then I would definitely recommend using signature links. FYI though, some people on this forum have been reporting that in their experiences the first link in a series of signature links seems to have more of an effect on rankings than the others.

So you might want to put your most important link first.

The first few days after I joined this forum I had my sig. as part of the posts. Now when I try to look up my site using Google search, this forum and Twitter are coming up on top with my sig. in them. I like it.

well it is simple you need theme related backlinks, so you benefit links from a link from webmaster forum for a web master/internet marketing niche related site.

It can be ood to post signature links, but dont expect miracles, you need to use other methods of linkbuilding.

It is particularly helpful if the topic of the forum relates to the subject of your website.

There are some bad points to using signatures in a few forums if it's your only or main way of building links. Let's say you have 500 posts in the forums and set your signature to a new site.

It's all you do for promotion.

A few weeks later you change your signature to promote a new site

Now that first site has zero links again.
