I don't have any experience with other ones .com domain places - and I'm sure there are better - but I have a couple domains at godaddy and they're alright ;) - You can choose if you want to renew automatically or manually as well and they won't renew a manual one unless you tell them too ;)

I don't trust godaddy...I have seen them showing available domain names as taken and putting a higher price to register them.

I've used them a bit, haven't had a problem. Now I have a reseller account with different company and get domains cheaper so no use for them..

Stay away from GoDaddy. No customer service/support. Mainly useless automated answers.

Godaddy is a big company and so you can trust it somehow.

But I find their control panel/interface too crowded, confusing and filled with ads or add-ons that if you are not careful enough will lead you to buy something that you don't want.

I recommend name.com as they have simple and easy to follow interface.

Their customer service are ignorant, uneducated and argumentative.
They have stolen a domain from me persoanlly also.
In addition their 'hosting' is pathetic.
    Hope this helps.

Yeah! GoDaddy is good to go! There is an option to manual renewal, so you don't need to worry about ;)

I have been with GoDaddy for a long time. They seem to be quite good in its domain business. GoDaddy is considered to be the hugest registrar all over the World.

I've been with GoDaddy a couple years. No problems, quick and helpful customer service, fair prices, $1.99 domains offered often.

First off, GoDaddy has way too many Upsells!
As someone else has mentioned in here they do have
a very slow interface. GoDaddy also charges extra for
WhoIs Protection and Domain Public Safety, whereas
    NameCheap.com includes it for Free!

So, just to reiterate, protection and private domain name
registration is important, but if you were to purchase it at GoDaddy
it will cost you $ 9.99/yr. Private domain name registration
is included with all purchased domain names through NameCheap.

Long story short, Godaddy is great for domain names but horrible for web hosting.
