There are actually TONS of very similar forums out there, and if this place lets people down, they will gradually move elsewhere. It has happened a million times before and it will continue to happen.

Someone will take over this forum even if the admin has left such a popular forum. And if DP has been banned from Adsense, surely use an alternative such as AdBrite. This forum has thousands of active users, it will not fall so easily.

    I agree with you.

This is how the internet works. Its just like real world. As in real world, one country rules whole of the world, and then after 10 years, its someone esle...

Remember the time altavista used to perform better than google? And now, when was the last time you pronounced the name altavista before this thread?

DP may die, when shawn notices after a few months that he hasn't received a check from adsense, and when he returns, he also wishes to update the forum board version and when he tries to do it, the database crashes and he looses all the data! BOOM, next days newspapers hold the heading:

    "Top Webmaster Community Over
Digital Point Forums come to a final end!"

Thats how it happens in my mind...

Eight years ago I began managing a forum with 1,500 members. Now, through selected targeting of growth, the forum has grown to 10,000 members and is still expanding. it used to be fun, now it feels like work.

Online forums are fine, but they can't take the place of the satisfaction of personal contact. When a forum gets so big that managing it becomes a job, you don't get the same joy as dealing with people face-to-face. And because you miss that human interaction, it's a matter of time before you reach a point of online burnout, which usually happens when you have either have to deal with a personal crisis, OR you experience a relationship that so enriches you that an online community can't compete with the feeling.

I'm guessing that Shaun is experiencing something like this. It's important for him to know that we appreciate all that he has done.

You guys all worry to much,

DP will be fine, Last year dp slowed down a bit and Shawn just had to do some DB work,

Many people here are big webmaster and realize that a ship of this size requires 24 a day work just to stay live.

If any of you "noobs" had any idea of just how many ROWS alone in this database you would be sick.

Give the guy a break(Shawn) I mean TechCrunch used to have like a 17 sec load time ,

As far as the google ads missing, Its a database issue / script issue I am sure, It was last time it happened, and there is a thread somewhere when it did happened.

Just chill and DP will be fine soon enough ;-)

And for anyone that says" get a server" Come on Noobs!!

    Hardware Status
May 4 - An order has been placed for 10 Dell blades and a chassis (completely loaded except for RAM). ($48,709.24)

May 8 - Order placed for 2 load balancers (primary plus hot spare). ($10,709.37)

May 8 - Order placed for 48 port managed gigabit switch (and redundant power supply). ($3,125.83)

May 16 - Blades have arrived.

May 18 - Load balancers and gigabit switch (and accessories) are here.

May 19 - Blade chassis is here.

    May 19 - Order placed for 120GB RAM (2GBx60). ($22,499.40)

May 30 - Memory is here.

And that's it... so total cost on new equipment ended up being $85,043.84. (weeeeee!)

June 6 - First blade all configured and tuned. Blades are replicating configuration across all blades now.

June 20 - Servers installed in data center, and I get to have surgery because of them. :(

June 22 - Servers starting to take over existing processes.

True... Those machines are sorely outdated by today's standards.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous threads I've read in a long time. Some of the post here had me laughing so hard I almost puked.

All the speculation, here say and other BS... Its way too funny.

I haven't been on here in a few months and just came back on today and my pm box is full of spam and I tried to delete it and it just kept coming back and popping up the new message thing, making it very hard to read the forum

seems like there have been alot of things going for worse since I was here last

no ads are showing for me either

If you would have been a member here for a bit of time, you would know that too much traffic and members are being the main cause for dp to die...
