NOTE: Before you start reading this post, you should know that this is not one of those "how can I get traffic? posts. This post was created so that people can share some of their traffic strategies so that we can help each other out. As you all know, there are a lot of ways to generate traffic. But the questions are, "Is it targeted traffic" and "how long will this traffic last". Personally I prefer search engine traffic more than anything else. The reason is that search engine traffic is usually targeted and you will experience a lot of traffic for a lot of time if you hit google's first page for a certain competitive keyword. It takes time but it is definitely worth it. My second best traffic method is article submission. It's good for traffic but the traffic they will bring is short-term if you ask me, so I prefer SEO. For SEO, I include my keyword a lot in the site for good keyword density, I do a lot of blog commenting, social bookmark submission and directory submmissions. Basically I submit my links everwhere I can What about you? What is your best traffic strategy?
SEO using PPN -- register a domain, flood it with +1000 links, balance the keyword density and for the next... can build a mint this way.
I'm sure paid SEO would work better, but all of mine has been free. Submitted my blog to directories Tons of back links Pinging Social book marking Forums Traffic Exchanges Free advertising I had to teach myself a lot about it, but my Alex rank has gone down 8,000,000 since I started this in February so I feel like my website is getting better recognition.
My current favorite (since my hosting company is quite new) is direct traffic via sites I've hosted for a long time. I have some high traffic sites I've hosted free of charge for years and I've finally plopped my banner on the top of their pages... Using this strategy has gotten me a ton of traffic/clients. I'm hoping to shoot for search engine traffic, but in the hosting industry that's just near impossible with all those random "too good to be true" deals people throw out at customers... At least mine's a guarantee... Another suggestion would be posting articles for sure! This not only increases your site's publicity, but you earn a lot of respect / loyalty as well...
My traffic techniques are very simple. Quality Content and back links. I have yet to master the art of promoting so I am not very good at that. Right now I have about 40 unique visitors daily and hope to start climbing very soon.
I say building back links by first having SEO tools enabled in firefox and then going to google / blogs and post comments and google / groups and post comments, with your link. If they are directly related to your keywords, you can get not only direct traffic, but also build up your SEO ranking to generate SE traffic. The very best back links however are .gov and .edu. Also, since those are so vast and probably cover every topic, more likely you'll find your niche moreso than general search blogs and groups. My 2 cents
Keyword research is very important and something that can sometimes be overlooked. It's no use targeting a niche that gets 10,000 searches a day if there's no chance of getting anywhere near the top of the competition. You need to be realistic and may be better off targeting some keywords with 200 searches a day with little search engine competition and you feel very confident of being able to gain the top spot in Google.
I understand your way to generate traffic . However I don't understand what is "using PPN" . Could you explain more ?
You guys need to add what subject your websites are about. IE I've gotten hundreds of visits for posting on the official forum about a game, while posting on a forum might not work for some other subjects.
I'm glad that everyone is shwoing interest on this thread, I have currently started a website on a niche that I know nothing about. Why have I started the site? For cash of course I found some very good products in this niche. Now all I need is targeted traffic. The best sources for that are article marketing and SEO. I hate article marketing so I am going to stick with SEO.
Excellent topic. It's funny. There are really only so many ways, but our need for our virtual real estate to feel wanted, we click in these traffic threads just for the reassurance that we ARE doing the right thing. I am never looking for nothing new. I am just looking to make sure I am not wasting MY time. Besides one or two exceptions, this is just about what I do in my exploits for rankings.
SEO is the best and one of most in demand source of traffic. It is based on the experiences i heard from a lots of internet entrepreneur. Now,the challenge is how and what are the strategies you will have to improve and making your traffics constantly growing in number everyday.
Article submission, link exchanges, forums, social bookmarking sites and quality content -- I use all methods. Say, this week I do article submission then the week after, social bookmarking and so on. I stick to a schedule to keep up with every single method I employ in my sites.
One of my favorite strategies is to buy a very Generic domain name then build pages around "late buying cycle, long tail keywords" that don't have much competition but are super targeted The traffic won't be huge, but the conversions will be amazing when using this strategy Then I use LinkVana to get about 20-30 relevant backlinks, and within a few short weeks, my page is on top of all the major search engines... The rest is PURE GRAVY! This approach works Beautifully for me! Hope that helps Vstar
