SEO strategy for my website

    Hi,

I am new to SEO and I need help.
I want a website for my translation company and I thought about creating several websites, each one with special translation fields (exp:technical translations, medical translations...) and then link them together to the main website where I have a sort of summary of all the fields that I tackle. Would it help in terms of SEO, would I go wrong with this approach? Would it be better jut to have one website?
    Any ideas, advice?
    Thanks.
    Alex

It's okay as an idea, but in practice you are probable better off concentrating your efforts on a singular website with then have a section for each. It's a lot easier to build enough trust up in 1 website than it is in many.

Id have to agree. And it is just as easy to potimise a page or section of a website as is it to optimise a whole new website.

It will be so much easier if you start as one site then slowly expand to another as your site grows. Since you said you're still a newbie it would be unfeasible to work on multiple sites. Just work on language sections as Nixies suggested.

Also save a lot of work for you in the long run because you only have to optimize it once with one website. Like building backlinks, PR rank, etc.

It depends on the size of each site. If you have enough content to have different sites, then it could be a good thing. Google silo website. Siloing can be very powefull if done correctly.

Thanks for the great advice. Keep them coming. I think I will do what all of you have suggested and start with one website, then maybe create a small network of sites (4 or 5). I am not sure what zeekstern meant when he said "silo/siloing".
    Appreciate everyones advice.
    Cheers.

There's both advantages and disadvantages in your strategy.

The advantages are that you are creating a network of interconnected sites that in the long-term will provide more "juice" for ranking purposes. They also can hold more weight individually in their specific niche. If you have one template that you are using for all 4-5 then I'd say go for it.

The disadvantage is that when it comes to marketing, you are going to have alot of work ahead of you with 4-5 sites to market simultaneously. You may want to outsource your efforts here because naturally it will take 4-5x the effort to build all these sites up to where they need to be. You'll be able to cross-advertise however, so this will offset some of the aforementioned.

Let us know how it goes.

If you have the resources and time to spend on link building, content creation for all your website than it is good to go.

I don't suggest this method, firstly you are still new to SEO and there are a lot of things need to learn about onsite and offsite which can take a lot of your time just to optimize one website unless you sub this work to someone else.

My, suggestion is to go with one website and have several categories. Add frequent contents frequently and do some link building from several ways (bookmarks, article, comments, forums, etc).
