The Truth About Anchor Text

I am seriously starting to think that Anchor text does not mean much. I see competitors that don't even know what Anchor text is , ranking high for keywords. Then on the other hand I am pushing anchor text hard on quality links. Plus on page optimization for the landing page with the keywords.

No luck a good deal of the time. It seems that I end up ranking high for keywords that I am not even targeting.

Does anyone ever notice this ?

 

Anchor text is only part of the optimisation. Page titles, content, overall page rank etc all matter. Anchor text is just one of the easiest ways to do get higher rankings without redoing your entire site.

 

When your on page optimization is very strong and getting so many internal linking then your many keywords will be on up ranking though you have not done off page and i have so many keywords which i am not promoting anywhere but it is on nice position, it's because of on page is strong!

Anchor text is very important, but even more important is the quality of the inbound link. You can have all the targeted anchor text you want from low pagerank sites, but if your competitor has some really good links from authoritative sites, they won't necessarily need the anchor text. Every little bit helps, but with links it's all about quality, not quantity.

i consider anchor text to be one of the 3 or 4 most important factors in seo. original content with keyword use, keyword use in title tags, lots of high quality backlinks with good anchor text (global popularity of your site), age of website/domain, internal linking scheme also using your keywords, backlinks coming from relevant sites in your niche, etc are main facotr. anchor text is up there.....

keep working at it, and building more links.

And downgraded in one of many ways. keep it natural. Natural sites have links all over the place, and the anchor text contains such things as the destination URL, the word 'here', or 'click here' as well as keywords. Their not knowing what it is does not necessarily imply their not using it

It largely depends on how your sites are different. Do you have enough relevant content to rank high enough?

Btw, are you working with all the pages on your site or just the homepage?

 

I do agree with this to some extent. Anchor text appears to be falling in importance to Google. Last year it seemed to be a key factor but this year not so much. I'd still say it has some relevance but it isn't so essential. In fact, if your anchor text is too good, Google will penalise you for over-optimisation...
