A friend of mine swears by Microft Expressions and says it the best software to design websites with. Do you agree?

God no. Dreamweaver is better by far.
I avoid Microsoft products when it comes to web design, ever since FrontPage. Even VisualStudio sucks, IMO. Of course, if you are doing ASP sites then maybe you are better off with Microsoft products. Otherwise, I would avoid them. My 2 cents.

You are Wrong, for me Microsoft VisualStudio will cater everything in my office and it help a lot's of things to accomplished my work. And VisualStudio is not suck. I love Commercial Software than open source. If you don have a money stick to the open source..

VisualStudio is just soooo heavy, it bogs down my machine (and I've run it on a variety of computers, most of them on the cutting edge of technology at the time), and it's so slow, and the Design View panel is far from intuitive and takes way too long to render, I just did not like it at all. Still, it is a necessary evil for working with ASP.net 2.0+, VB or C++. That's why I prefer PHP and Dreamweaver. Totally my own opinion, but it's not about money, it's about the quality of the code produced, the ease of use and intuitive GUI, and the resources consumed. Adobe has trumped Microsoft on all of these fronts.

Of course whatever works best for you, works!

All of these suggestions suck. Learn to code manually.

It's really true but we are using the microsoft software already 15 years. And then we have no problems open yet. It depends how you manage your software. Maybe your machine is too old why is it you say that its too long to render maybe the specification was wrong you implemented. I hope you implemented specification was correct.

I used FrontPage, and now I switched to Expression and I think that it is pretty good.
Also I use all Adobe products and will start using dreamweaver because everybody says that it is better.
So if you are just starting choose Dreamweaver.

for everybody bad mouthing Microsoft just dont because I refuse to pay $2000 for Apple.....Got quadcore Pentium overclocked at 3.5Ghz per Core so 14Ghz of computing power for $800...Microsoft did great things for Computer world don't forget that.......

You need that much power just to run Microsoft software cause it's so bloated. The price you pay for Apple machines reflects its reliability, dependability and interoperability. Apple guarantees everything works together. Microsoft does not.

I'm running the entire Adobe CS 3 suite (newsletter/magazine design, photo editing, Web design, etc) along with audio editing, video editing, and blah blah blah on an older Mac G5 that only put me out $700. Hell, I don't even have the ram maxed.

Yeah, I'm not going to play Left 4 Dead on this thing (did play World of Warcraft though), but it's a solid machine that does everything I do as a Web Creative.

BTW, nothing wrong with using Windows if you like it. I just shared my story because I get tired of the "price debate" as its usually irrelevant for what people are actually doing in day-to-day business life.

As for the OP, Dreamweaver reigns supreme and will for ages (it seems). It's highly flexible and scalable. Additionally, it seamlessly integrates with other tools we use for design (Photoshop, et al).

Of course, what's BEST for YOU depends on what you're doing.

If you're mainly just throwing down WordPress themes, for instance, all that is overkill. You can do it in any good text editor (Coda on the Mac FTW) + whatever you use for graphics.

Demo some stuff out, kick the tires and see what rocks your world.

Just remember: always be stylish. :)
