A little bit of help for a newbie please :)

Hello everyone

I have spent a few days cruising around this forum which is an absolute mine field of great information and I must say I am feeling rather dizzy

I have a website and have been forking out lots and lots of $$$ and being ripped off on more than one occasion so I have decided to take on the SEO stuff myself as I now don't have a lot of trust in people working on my site.

My website is a bit of mess at the moment but I am slowly getting it together.

Obviously like a lot of other people here I am wanting to work on my google rankings, where is the best place for a newbie like me to start? Could someone please point me in the direction of good easy to understand threads on this board that might help me a little? I have been reading heaps but a lot of it is going straight over my head.

see if you are considering traffic for your site with SEO then you need to do following steps...

1. directory submissions.
2. social bookmarking submissions.
3. article submissions.
4. forum posting.
5. buy blog review or posting.

these are written in how you should go about... with this you can easily gain traffic and sales

Sorry, as I said this is all very new to me and I am not familiar with a lot of the terms used on this site.

This - http://www.hobo-web.co.uk/seo/ is the best concise seo guide I've seen - it's both comprehensive and easy to follow.

 

What is your url?
You really have to start with a very good page title with all your main keywords in it (the text that you see in the top of your browser). Then make sure that you have good titles (h1, h2 etc.) and feature your most important keywords frequently in the text. And yes also a good meta description to encourage visitors of Google to click on your link. That is the most important.

When that is in place start promoting your website by commenting in forums, blogs, submit to directories and write some articles. Every link to your site will increase your Google Page Rank. The higher your google Page rank the higher you ranking in the search engines will be.

What is a social bookmarking submission?

Answer: A social bookmarking site is a place for people to share websites they like. The reason you should submit your website to social bookmarking sites is primarily for the backlink that you get for each bookmark. Backlinks will help you rank better in google.

Answer: Posting links to your website in your forum signatures will give you backlinks and traffic. Again, backlinks will help you rank higher in google.

 

Best social bookmarking site I have found is mixx.com. Just make sure you don't bookmark your website too much as this will negativel impact your search engine ranking.
