I am looking at getting a dedicated server... actually I am definitely getting one in the next week. I am trying to find a good price, with great support. What would you pay for this set up-- Dual Xeon Dual CPU 4GB RAM 10mbps Transfer 11 Unique IP Addresses 146GB SCSI drive Setup Fee Waived Does this forum have a member involved in hosting? Anyone have recommendations as to where to look?
You can get that for $339.00 with Plesk at SoftLayer https://www.softlayer.com/order_form/order.html?so_id=13&ITEM_PRICES[disk0]=19&ITEM_PRICES[server]=684
I spend about $140/m on a dedicated server at LunarPages- haven't had problems. The support team is a little frustrating sometimes. Be sure to buy the manual server reboot and a bit of extra ram if you go for a lower-priced plan.
For a server like that, $180 might fly with me. If your looking for servers then you should check out Softlayer, The Planet, Serverbeach, iWeb, etc. Liquid Web is pretty nice as well. I know that Softlayer and The Planet have a great infrastructure. iWeb is in Canada. Server beach used to host Youtube. If you're on a budget, iWeb has some low priced servers but they don't have dual xeons. If your looking for a server with those specific specs, you should probably go to Softlayer or The Planet, but it won't come cheap. Otherwise, you can also take a look at Rackspace for Managed dedicated servers.
thanks for the info guys. Ive been out of the game for a while, working another job and finishing school. I havent looked around at servers in a while. The people I used to know in the business, I can't track down. I have had an account with Webair for a long time, and they have been pretty good. The specs I gave above is what they offered me for $379. They have pretty good tech support. Too expensive? I am looking into server beach, they seem to be priced pretty well.
Go to WebHostingTalk.com and click on Find a Host and get a host from there, they have the best hosts and you wont be scammed...
