Tools to analyze a competitors website

I'm trying to analyze a competitor's website in terms of number of pages and who links to them. I've seen it done with free tools but I can't seem to find them. Can you help? Specifically:

    - how many pages? I was in a seminar once and saw the speaker use google to find a list of pages on a website.

    - incoming links? I also saw someone use a free website to get a list of all of the incoming links to a website?

    Any ideas?

You can download seoquake, just google it,it is a toolbar that shows you backlinks, domain age, indexed pages....

A really good toolbar for knowing a bit more about your competition.

    I use add-ons for Mozilla:
    seoquake

I think they are most useful ones

Yahoo site explorer is the best for checking backlinks. There are some tools you can buy as well.

Go to Google's page and type in, link:www(thesitesname).com

You could also look into http://www.quarkbase.com on other things, like, how many pages was sent to networking sites. It may not be totally accurate, though.

The best have been said already. But just so you know, i have yet to see a tool that beats Yahoo site explorer as far as checking backlinks is concerned. That is one area that they best Google hands down.

My favorite tool to look at competitive websites is SEO Elite. However, this is a "pay for" tool so you may want to start with free options first. Hub Spot is good as well as Alexa. I know there's a bit of debate about the accuracy of Alexa but at least you can quickly get a look at sites linking in to your competitor.

You should also check out Quantcast. If there's enough traffic to analyze your competitor, you'd be amazed at the info it give you for free.
