    I don't think it's all about backlinks. I got 4 new sites that have NO backlinks and they all got a PR2 on the previous update and held the PR on yesterdays update.

    I have stop worry myself about Google PR for a long time. It is only Google that knows what and what they consider for PR update.

    I think it is a major update, Google like to surprise webmaster about PR update. I dont expect it too this month.

    well my links in the webmasters account are still there.

    Was just worried how the links disappeared like that. Moreover, there was one stupid site that said fraudulent Page rank and all that freaked me out.

    My links in webmasters are still intact - 706 links overall.

    in this update, all my domains pageranks remained same, except two.
    1) PR 3 -> PR2
    2) PR 4 -> PR5

    anyway, im happy :D

    I have a blog running since 9 April this year and I have PR2.
    I'm quite happy.

    Also, from what I heard on some webmasters forums, doing link exchange can increase your PR. ( but only with site with higher PR than yours)

    For example, your site has PR2, and if you LE with a pr1 site - nothing happens. ( well, not a lot)
    But if you LE with some pr2+ sites, your PR should increase after few days/weeks.

    Link exchange is useful, even it's not with higher pr pages. Important is the quantity ( and quality ) of links pointing to your site. Be careful, not to make link exchange with link farms.

    On topic: 1 month old site received pr1.

    If you link with a site that has lower PR but big ambitions, i.e. sound marketing strategy and booming traffic and reputation, then you'll benefit from if/when they gain higher PR, so don't discount them so quickly ;)
