I'm planning on putting up a static website with around 10 original articles or so, and I'm looking for the best place to buy the domain name and hosting. I probably won't need too much bandwidth and I'm looking for the most basic package (no e-mail needed, etc.). So my question is where do you buy your domains? And where do you think I should buy mine?
I bought my domain at Name.com, Namecheap and Godaddy. For hosting, I'm using Hostgator. - Dynashox -
Always Name.com or Namecheap for me. earlier i was with godaddy, but i don't like their Too much of advertisements and slow load time.
Alright but what about package deals where the domain is free with a hosting package? Are those worth it? I hosted my first site on 1and1 and the domain was free (but 1and1 hosting is just bad).
GoDaddy by a far margin. However, you must apply a little trick. 1. Log into the GoDaddy page and check the day's price, usually 9.99 for a dot.com 2. Goggle the term "domain registry". GoDaddy will come up in a top 5 link, BUT OFFERING THE SAME .COM FOR 6.99.95% of th time. A dot info cost a ridiculous 99 cents, while BlueHost.com will chage 10 dollars for the same. 3. Shoukld # 2 not work. go to Maddog.com (a GoDaddy Company) and you will get it for 7.49 4. DO NOT bookmark the GD promotional URL because it changes daily. 5. Need to follow step # 1 every time. 6. Unless you plan to resell your domain, always choose the privacy option. 7. If you hate yourself and want to be harassed by crooks posing as "domain brokers" at least do yourself a favor and use a POBox address. 8 If you are to choose the privacy option later, you will pay about 8 dollars per domain, that you would have otherwise received for free 9. Regardless of what" experts" tell you, stick with .com's.Very few people manage to sell the other types at a good profit. Good luck. Rob
I really enjoy to buy domains from GoDaddy.com because we can use coupons! while purchasing or renewing domains! It also contain multi features! with reasonable prices
How hard is it to switch hosts? I'm having serious problems with 1and1 and it sounds like Hostgator is a better alternative.
This is depend on what kind of script you using. If its only php with now database then its easy to migrate host. But don't worry about this coz this can be handle by your new host. They will transfer for your at free of charge.
I will always stick with Godaddy.com no matter what other says. Free push transfer & well known. Just a tip.. if you wanna check domain names in bulk.. let us say 1000 names at one go.. You may use http://www.bulkchecking.com
Buy your domain from godaddy but use coupon numbers to get a reduction in the price - do a google search for godaddy coupons
