One big site vs. Multiple niched sites

Which one is better? Should I create one site that includes a lot of contents or multiple niched sites with more focused contents? Are there benefits to each?

For example: One big porn site with all categories vs. multiple sites - Asian, Extreme, Big Boobs, and so on ..

If it is all on one specific topic, you may do better with one large site. If it is varied topics, go for multiple. The downfall of 1 big one is that you are putting all your eggs in one basket. While it can become big and more successful than lots of little sites, if something happens to it, you are pretty much dead. With multiple sites, if one fails, you are still in business.

1 big site with more partner work together will give you better chance to go big.

Yeah unless you only deal with one topic thats very specific go with one site. Why spread out your search engine authority if you are going to have all of those in one place?

There are certain circumstances where multiple small sites are ok, but most of the time I would avoid it.

One big site is always better if you are going for big things on the long run...that few little sites will gain traffic faster probably in the beginning.

It is also easier to worry just about one site.

Both are good, one big site = lots of landing pages lots of little sites = diffrent targetted visitors.

You can have your big site link to all your small sites and vice versa. Works great!

This is it indeed. 1 big site + many niche sites. Lot of work but the best solution.

Many niche marketing are better! But if you do one website...just keep a careful eye on that one basket!

I'm having the same dilemma now and I think I'll go for 1 big because the niches are really small and having separate site won't be cost effective. Besides one niche site will be like 10 pages by itself so I better combine 10 niches and create 100+ pages site. All are related of course, just location separates them :)

1 big site won't make you confuse.
It's help you focus on optimize just 1 website..

Right know I have 4 sites that have over eight hundred pages each, Three are similar to one another but completely different selling products of figurines to table fountains, anywhere from 8 categorys to 18 categorys each one makes money 3 with product's plus adsense on them and 1 site with adbrite and adsense.

Create multiple niched sites and link to all these with your big 1:p
This will work like a magic for both of your projects.

You can create multiple niched sites and link them all together. Also, you can upsell, downsell, cross-sell etc. to all of the lists since it's related to each other.

Of course one big site with all categories. You can focus on SEO and generate traffic to one site compare to multiple website

My advice is to do whatever it takes to meet your goal.

If your goal is to make $1000 per month is doesn't matter if you have 1 person paying you $1000 per month or 1000 people paying you $1 per month. It's all about doing what works for your and what gets you to your goal.

Is you niche large enough to sustain 100's of pages? Can you scale that large without setting off Google's duplicate content flag?

Statistically larger sites do better in the long haul, however; 1. They take lots of time to build, 2. Can be extremely difficult to rank for more than a few keywords unless everything is very tightly related, and 3. As stated earlier if you get hit for something by Google, hacker maybe, something catastrophic you could be down for a long time or permanently.

Small sites, 5 - 10 pages of GOOD content can, and do rank VERY well. If you have enough traffic to the site, providing the service or product is decent you're going to make money.

    @ OP

It really depends on you. If you are a beginner in IM then I suggest that you stick with one site and work on it untill you start seeing some money.

As for me, I'll go with multiple niched sites. I always like to try and test different things. But that's just me... sometimes too much hassle can produce bad results.

    More sites = More hassle

If you are still beginning then I'll strongly suggest that you stick with one site for now ;)

What many people often do is first focus on one big site, then spread out to multiple sites in the effort to not have their "eggs all in one basket." However, that also comes at the expense of spending much less time on all the sites - your time ends up getting spread quite thin.
