Goddady 60 days rule is a rip off

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by ogg, May 29, 2009.

This is not industry standard and they are quite bad to invent such rule and enforce such rule.
I want to transfer my domain someplace else and keep getting rejected. I will not buy any domain in Goddady from now on.

60 days to transfer a new domain is not a GoDaddy rule, rather an ICANN requirement that all registrars must follow.

I bought in fabulous, I transfer right away. Some other registrar I worked with has 21 days rule. Are you sure this is "ICANN requirement"? Since Goddady 's own word saying this is "opt in".

It's an ICANN rule. Fabulous sell domains already registered, right? What other register has a 21 day rule? I don't think so.

Thanks for the reply. If you register a new domain ,there is 60 days hold, which is ICANN rule.
But I bought existing domain from someone else in Goddady, they should not hold it for 60 days. Am i right? After free push, they can hold it for 2 or 3 weeks, not 60 days. Goddady is abusing the system for their own advantage in this case.

    not really ;)

if some hacker gained access to your account and he pushed to domains to another account and he can transfer those names. but this 60 days rule prevents such frauds

if you want to transfer from gd its good to ask the buyer to give auth code to transfer than push the domain

I bought a domain from godaddy for the first time a few days ago,

I already love godaddy, apart from i hate there way of paying!, I am based in the UK and i want to know how much $10 is in GBP, They dont redirect you to paypal because of the crappy payment agreement!

Anyway, other than that godaddy is great, there control panel is amazingly easy to use!

The 60day rule is appropriate also, i dont see any problem with it!

it is not a very good system this rule however it does protect from fraud. also i use other registrars than godaddy but they seem to be the biggest

Since I can not transfer, then I renewed today. Anyone try to renew a domain in Goddady, I went through more than 10 screens to finally reach the last page. 10 pages of up selling, "since you are renewing this com. do you want info, us ...with the same key words as well?" "Since you are renewing one year, would you like 2 years 3 years"...

Bottom line is I can not believe so many people love Goddady.

i think this rule is very good as if some got hold of your bank card details or paypal details they could buy man domains then transfer but this way it is not possible for them to transfer so i guess it is to keep godaddy from getting charged back but also the people from losing out also

You can switch to other registrars if you don't like godaddy.

This is a security feature that they implement it to prevent fraud case.
If they don't implement this, anyone GD account get hacked, then the hacker can transfer the domain out of GD easily.

I have many domains and spread around all over the places. I can tell you Goddady is one of kind. I don't hear stories someone lost his domains in other than Goddady. Goddady is kind of like GM, big and not listen to customers.

I use godaddy all the time and haven't had any problems with them. I didn't realize there was a 60 day transfer rule.
