Please Sell Carefully, I Was Scammed, $ Reversed Thru Paypal "dispute"

Discussion in 'Domains' started by cafinater, May 27, 2009.

Read the sticky for the full info on this kind of scam. They pay you for your domain, you transfer it to them, and a day or 2 or 3 later, they "dispute" the paypal transaction and paypal puts a hold on your money. I am trying to fight it, but all info I've read (too late) is that paypal alway sides with the scammer. I feel really stupid as well as ANGRY. I'll feel a little better though if I can help other sellers not fall for it.

yeah, he contacted me thru PM, had no itrader, [yes, I was stupid but according to the sticky even WITH itrader, people have been scammed].

his username was: forwardman but I doubt he'll be using that one again. I wonder if I can post negative itrader when he responded to a thread with PM.

    oh ! thats too bad.

    BTW, what about this solution:
After payment ask them to open a dispute and then close it. Once they closed it transfer the domain.
I think once dispute is closed by him it is not allowed to raise another dispute on that issue. Iam I correct?

That's actually one of the smartest things I've ever heard.... could it finally be the solution?

Would love to hear from someone if it works or not.

    Thanks

Ogh mate..thats too bad....Paypal never give protection at itangiable product like domain names...I got scammed with this model too. The only way to get your domain back is report it to the domain registrant not paypal!!! paypal will not support you [ for my experience ]...Just email or call the customer support of your registrant and tell them about your situation and give them all your related document about this, they will help you. There's no guarantee that you will get your domain back, but if you do this before too late [ you must act fast after you know you got scammed ] sometimes you can get back your domain [ I got back my domain at my last experience ] I only try this method once...because I am always ask paypal about this situation before, and they never give me good help and just hold my account !!!! and this is my big false. I hope that you never get scam again.

PAYPAL won't accept with you unless u upload a BIlling information. But we can't provide billing information for such kind of business ( domain selling )

so as DnWebMarketplace told better contact the Registrant customer support and explain them clearly. They will help you (I think!!)

Buyer will pay you the amount and after that they will open a dispute.
Domain status : yet to transfer

Then ask the buyer to close the dispute with a reson that 'issue solved'.
Domain status : you can transfer now

Now what the buyer can do?

Open another dispute for same transaction? Is it possible?

But,how about the credentials and reputation at PayPal.
For every transaction if you get a dispute, will PayPal wont see it as a serious issue.

Why am I asking is I got a $350 offer for one of my domain selling at DP and the fellow wants to pay through PayPal and I preferred sedo.com. he dropped from the deal.

So how can we really tackle this issue?
Really looking for some serious discussion on this.

Never open and close a dispute as mentioned by designer007. A dealer asked me to do so and I got my account on hold for two months by doing so. I had to make million calls to paypal to release the account. Just check the itrader before u purchase domain.

If you are doing deal with a somewhat new DP member and want to go ahead completely safe then make a deal via escrow.

If he is not an honest itrader and sell fake domain
    Hard to get refund
Try to launch a paypal dispute

SO check carefully before Buying PR Domain(check with different checkers)

just an idea. How if you have 2 account of paypal?
1 for your bank of money,
    1 for transaction only.

So, if you sell domain, just ask the buyer for transfer paypal to your secondary account of paypal (that is only used for transaction only). After the buyer transfer the money, you can transfer to your main account of paypal, as quickly as you can.

Also, you can do this for registar account of your domain..
    What do you think ?

as DnWebMarketplace said, your dn provider will probably help you out. when i was scammed and paypal looked the other way i went to namecheap (as another member on here told me to do at the time). they took the domain back from the scammer and put it back into my account.

when dealing in the future here if its under $100 i will look at itrader's etc and deal via paypal knowing namecheap will probably help me out if anyone try's to scam me, but if its over $100 i will always use sedo for extra security now. they might take some of the cash but if it guarantee's a safe transaction its worth getting a percentage of the sale than none of it at all. and if the buyer doesn't want to use sedo and only use paypal, don't see it as a possible sale falling through, panic and use paypal. see it as you missing a bullet, cos the chances are the guys a scammer.

PayPal always lets scammers get away. Go to the registrar.

Yes, Paypal not protect domain or website seller. If you have big deal [ more $ 100 ] use escrow or sedo. To save your transaction, use another payment merchant like Liberty Reserve [ no dispute option ] so you will save your money. Or if you still use paypal, hold your transaction for a few days before transfer your domain or site...just make sure your money is save. Hope its help...
