    Hi 2 all,

My website is www.eggdir.com, whenever i used to write EggDir in google my website used to comeup 1st but now i don't know why it went back to page 7, other crap which shouldn't even b in the search result comes up before my website. Should I contact google? or does it need SEO? I've listed it in a lot of free directories some even crap so did that have negative effect on it?

    Regards,
    EggDir

Sorry to say, but Google won't even respond to such an equiry.

What probably happened is that you got indexed for a unique term and more than likely it was a fluke to be in the no 1 spot.

To get/keep a top 5 position in any worth while market you are going to have to work hard at SEO.

    Backlinks is the keyword!

Contacting Google doesn't seem to be a good decision. They don't manually do this. They will just crawl into every website and record every possible occurrence of keyword and uniqueness and genuineness. And it will list the results following these records. Your content may be unique and trustworthy. But the backlinks for your site may have fallen down. So I prefer you do SEO for your website.

listing it in directories shouldnt hurt you, but it prob doesnt help much either. especially when they outrank you for the information.

you dont have any decent links to speak of, your best 2 are nofollowed.

    link link links.

Is the site fairly new? You could have been sandboxed; new sites generally get pushed far in the SERPs until they get some age.

keywords, that's only what I have to say... :)
eggdir, as a keyword isn't too competitive, I tried to Google it and found out that most links come from forums and other directories. Get more competitive keywords so you could be on top again...

The link directories you submitted to could hurt you if they are related to spam/bad sites.

Check if the directories that are linking to you have links to porn/sex/drugs/casino sites. If they do it is very possible they have hurt your site, especially if more than one are dodgy sites!
If so try and remove your site from these directories.

A site with porn/sex/drugs/casino links which also links to you will not hurt your rankings: this is a misconception. If this were true, we could easily sabotage our competitors. Although these types of links don't hurt you, they also do not help you.

    Very well said.

How old is the site (not the domain)? If it's fairly new, then I wouldn't worry much about it. Happens to me all the time when launching new sites.

PM me if you need help.

Thankyou all 4 the very useful info. I never thought listing in directories related to spam could hurt, I just submitted to directories and didn't think about their quality.

Also the site is two months old; i'd say fairly new.

And i've another question; Approximately how many good quality link would it require for my site to comeup with PR1?

It occurs to me that your site's name "EggDir" is showing up on web sites, which are considered "authoritative" by Google. For instance, forums, such as this one, are ranking higher than your own site, due to the fact that you use "EggDir" as your username. I suppose, in your case, that's not necessarily a good thing at the moment.

Just continue to populate your site with relevant, useful content, and continue your off-page optimization, as well (i.e. backlinks, etc.).

It doesn't hurt just try to avoid doing it!

You couldn't say how many links you needed, you would have to give someone alot of details to work that out.

Just keep link building from big named related sites, blogs, forums etc... and you'll get there.

links are essential, but i think google doesn't have just one sandbox filter, but many, and it seems that for directories it will take more time to gain rankings than regular site

    just hard SEO work :)

Build quality links to improve your ranking and outrank your competitors. Competition is tough in Google these days.

No you don't have to contact google just because of that, it is a normal scenario when it comes to seo, all you need to do now is to focus and to put more attention to your site or maybe you need someone who specialize in this field.

Also, you have to remember that you must build links slowly; Google will slap you down very quickly if it feels like it's being spammed!
