Landing Pages - Squidoo Lens or Hosted?

    Hi guys.

I've recently become a member of DP and love it to bits. No where else online have I come across such useful, and HONEST information!

In light of that, I would like some honest advice on landing pages. I use mainly bum marketing and ezine articles to generate traffic to my campaigns.

My question is this: What is better to use as a landing page, my own hosted pages (Usually review style) or a squidoo lens? So far I have been using my own pages, but by the looks of things a Squidoo lens will get ranked WAY faster than any of my own pages.

Whats your experience with landing pages? What has and what has not worked well for you?

You should test both. But as youve seen ( and i have too..) , your squidoo lens will get indexed and ranked higher. However there is probably too much clutter and other links on squidoo that you cannot control.

And of course the last thing you want a valuable customer doing is clicking elsewhere...

Create a self hosted landing page and promote it via Squidoo?

My point exactly...guess ive got to weigh it up then...a highly ranked, cluttered page or a lower ranked uncluttered page... What has your experience been with this?

I read on warrior forum of a guy that uses a squidoo lens as a landing page, then promotes it with articles, wordpress blog, blogger blog and hubpages....His doing very well with this approach...

I think it might work better for me though to have my squidoo lenses, articles and blogs pointing at my own landing page...

Yes I think you should use both Squidoo and Hubpages as well as article directories pointing to your landing page. I cannot decide Squidoo or Hubpages I like more. In my experience Hubpages get indexed quicker and stay longer. Squidoo lenses have a problem that it will appear on the first page the first week and then being pushed back to the second page. This doesn't happen to Hubpages, or at least I haven't got this problem.

However to make up for that, you can place as many links on Squidoo lenses as you want while on Hubpages they only allow maximum of 2 links to the same domain on one hubpage.

Personally, I have never seen a squidoo page rank well in generic google searches.

On the other hand, I have seen a lot of selfhosted wordpress blogs rank very well in google. And with a wordpress blog, you get a whole site - as compared to one page on squidoo.

This makes sense, I heard Google is keeping a keen eye on Squidoo... Apparently a few years back (in 2007 i think) there was someone that created like 70000 squidoo lenses in a week with automated software and scrapers... This made Google pull all the squidoo lenses at the time... At the moment though, i think that Google is well aware of people's marketing efforts using Squidoo..

Hey Kev - Yeah ive seen that wordpress is extremly powerful in getting ranked quickly. I think in the end of the day it will be good to have a well designed, custom landing page on my own servers...then have all the powerful stuff pointing to it...will give me nice chance to pre-sell as well..

Hey there TFriend! What you want to do is mix it up a bit. If you have your own site then brilliant!

So point your squidoo to your hosted site and then point some of your articles to squidoo. Your squidoo lens will rank easily for the keyword you chose where as your own site won't it will need the help of back links from articles. You should put a couple of links to squidoo just to give it some link love and help it rank.

    Hope this helps.

Go hosted. You'll have more control in the long run.
