Image is very important as it anchors to visitor's impression. Visitors connect the image ( feeling they get from the image ) with your product & service subconsciously. It's a well known NLP technique. So choose carefully. I suggest to change it. Because I got confused looking at the image, trying to make sense where the rest of the face was. Otherwise, looks good.
I like your design. But i think the image of your header doesn't mean anything. But overall, it is a nice website
Yes...your header is not in line with your website need keep simple professional header....try a good logo...so ppl recognize and return to your site....with mindset.. Second , you want to make forum big hit... you need to reach masses....so..reach search engine????how??? see those site really go up in hits and search engine ranking who are dynamic and updated on daily basis...because search engine keeps crawling your site..more and more...as you add data As lot of articles and topics are available .....i have over 9000 articles....on all topics... Something I thought strange was the way you positioned the site, it's not centered and it's not anchored on the left. I think if you left a little less space on the left then it would look better (it doesn't need to be all the way to the left).. or center it in the browser. Otherwise looks real good

The header is the top rectangular shaped area that runs across the top of the web page design on your screen. Unless you are wanting to be unusual and trying to step completely ‘outside the box’, it will appear on every web page. Keep it small. Keep the header consistent.Keep it relevant.
The eye of the Zebra looks not so attractive and also you need to center your site in the browser (Firefox 3.5), check it out..
