There is a new better search engine Wolfram Alpha which poses lot of threat to its existing competitors like google and wikipedia . Wolfram Alpha is an answer-engine developed by Wolfram Research. With google and wolfporm Results may vary. For example, searching ‘Microsoft Apple‘ in Alpha returns data comparing both companies stock prices, whereas Google top results are news stories mentioning both companies. Check it out
I just tested it out today and it is nothing like Google. I typed in the word "funny" It didn't return any results other than the words origins and other specific uses for the word. It did not return any results for websites, pictures, videos or anything from the web.
Hmm, didn't really take to it myself either. I've bookmarked it however, and will keep an eye on it for the future... Cheers.
It isn't anything like Google and isn't meant to be. It doesn't search for sites, it has its own database of information and is very useful for maths things etc.
Really? Come back to the thread when they have a +73% market share of all searches made on the internet.
Doesn't anyone get it? It isn't a search engine at all! You can't search for stuff on the internet through it...
The site is very helpful and I’ve bookmarked it. IMO there’s no comparison between Google and WolframAlpha. It provides systematic knowledge immediately from the data stored in its database and it’s not a search engine. I hope they will do much more better in future. Thanx for let us know about WolframAlpha.
Yes - finally someone else who realises Google and Wolfram are incomparible, they are completely different its like comparing beef with cheese.
I would say there are different type of search engine, if looking for some answer and research, wolfram is good but if looking for something, then google still the best
if it really takes off then how are the webmasters supposed to earn? since it just copies over everything to its own DB
Saying that it's not even at the bottom is a bit exagerated. There's a lot of work, but it has a different purpose and it seems to rely on verified, own content. That means that the results are "probably" more reliable but nowhere as complete as Google's. Depends on what you want.
Wolfram Alpha is a bigger competitor to real time information sources and wikipedia than Google. I don't see them as competitors but as two distinct tools to get two different types of work done.
Microsoft with all it's money and yahoo besides can't stand a competition with google. it takes time and research and development and loads of cash to get a powerful search engine buddy. it's not a one day or one month or even one year job...
Wolfram Alpha doesn't stand a chance against Google (but you have to hand it to them for having the cooler name.)
