What is best for a domain name…

I was wondering what would be best for a domain name. Should I use something like my.site.here.com or my-site-here.com. I have a good idea for a domain name but don’t know which option to choose. Which one do you think is best?

Dashes are best as supposedly google picks up the indiidual words better if you are keyword targeting the domain name.

    For example: top-KEYWORD.com

Using your example (and without knowing the exact domain you're after) I'd say, MySiteHere.com would be the best option.

My dilemma is that with the dash or dots the domain name will make more sense than without. So what should I do? If I buy with dashes what stops someone else from buying with dots and in this way have a similar domain as me? I’m really confused.. :D

Guys just analyse the top 10 domain names for any niche... bet you find very few -'s.

you always get myths like -'s are best goolge reads them better.. well look yourself the top ranknig sites are almost always keywordkeyword.com
    Always do your own research..

I dont even think you can use dots can you? I can't ever remember seeing it & it seems they are only used for subdomains. But dashes are the way-to-go

Unfortunately I had to settle for in-diggnation.com because indiggnation was already taken. Anyway I think people will get the pun… :D

if you are going after branding and like my.site.com I would go for it, if you are doing seo I think my-site.com would make more sense.

what's wrong with mysitehere.com ? there is no point in having sub-sub-sub domain like my.site.here.com. dashes are good for SEO to an extent but being well expereinced in having both kind of domains(with dash and without dash) I can safely say that go with no dash domains as they make little difference. IMO mysitehere.com is the best one :) best of luck

If you can, its probably best to avoid dashes and dots alltogether.
