Think about the number of ingoing and outgoing links from the directory and do the math. And no, I don't care about your so called proof.

directories work for me and on some of the really good ones it even bring decent traffic to some of my sites. i usually submit to the top 10 directories on the web and then go after niche/local directories. so that they are relevant to the site im promoting.

    Hi,

Directory submissions is useful when done manually rather than using tools. There after directories do take time for approving the submissions.
Its a long process but beneficial in the end.

    regards

Better to concentrate on other things like article, forum posting and blog commenting etc. Its not worth spending time on directory submissions.

Directory submission is good for PR if they are high quality link directory. But they will not bring traffic. Try other methods like forum signatures, blog comments, social bookmarking, etc.

i have to agree with those like lotr08 that submission is good for pr.
it was the directory submissions over the last 5-6 months that boosted the pr of my site from 3 to 4 and has made a difference in the search engine page results. some extra traffic from those directories, but not much, that's true too. i didn't do much else other than that up until a few weeks ago.
now if only tourism would come back.
thanks for the free directory and articles lists, dudes!

I recommend this... Directory Submission is part of the equation... I would hire someone on DP to do a decent submission package for you.

But I would also spend a little money and get listed in JOEANT.com and BOTW. Submit and hold your breath for DMOZ. And find a few directories that are niche specific or geo-targeted specific to your site.

I would then move on to other forms of links building... In a few months you can come back and hit it up again and through down another round of link building, but don't waste your time doing it yourself or ONLY doing directory submission. Once again, it is only part of the equation (like not a huge part either).

Directory submission is good for long term result, but it takes too much time.
better go for article marketing and social bookmarking for quick results.

Free directories takes a lot of time to get listed and to get approved. It is one of the best ways to generate more backlinks. There are paid directories and you will get the approval soon. The hundred directory submission is a less number. For the good results try many more.

Directories will not take more than a week to approve. I would suggest u to do it manually. Also check out the pr of the directories, it should be atleast pr 3+ to reflect immediately.
