When I first started out and I was struggling I thought there were things that were kept secret or hidden by others who were making money. In the end, it was consistent action on my part to get things moving everyday, no matter what. Make sure you take some action everyday and you will see progress, too many of us will throw up articles or landers and then sit there and wait for things to happen, keep moving, that's the secret and finding out what works for you and running with it. Failure only shows us how not to do it next time around :)

People. It really is that simple - your product can be great or crap, your marketing campaign can be misspelled garbage or professionally written gold, none of that matters...

People have to want your product. Better, people have to want to promote your product. Doesn't matter how you get there (I'd recommend a combo of research, copywriting, good design, good code, SEO, PPC, solos, social networks, least 2-3 offline advertising methods, and a plan), but that's where you want to be: With lots of people who trust you and sell your product* while you're on the beach relaxing :)

*Note: "your product" can be a service, eBook, affiliate products, websites, anything - you don't have to have a physical product to be successful. Put some research and expertise into it and you'll do fine.

I totally agree - it's all about satisfying people's needs and wants. This being said, all you have to do is to find the people who need/want your "product".

Traffic is all about knowing somebody. Think about it. The real world works this way and so does the internet. Great links, promo's, reviews, etc. get your site going fast just like a few phone calls do in the real world.

It's all about who you know. So start meeting people.

No guru will share his ultimate secret. If anyone will share those are probably tricks that everyone knows.

Spot on, many people make the mistake of thinking about themselves when creating a product instead of thinking about the potential buyers.

Beautiful post I was ready to come say no secrets out there. Well I guess there is a secret to advertising a website, the reason people fail is they give up so don't give up. Remember it takes time and alot, but everything you do to advertise will stack up and over the months/years will pay off. Even now when I look at where traffic besides organic is coming from I am always suprised because I usally don't remember placing my site there. I think it is especially funny when I begin signing up for a website such as a social bookmark to find out I have already submitted to them.

I think sometimes the pursuit of a 'secret' can distract us from action. For example many bodybuilders spend a lot of time and money trying to discover a 'secret' to growing muscle, instead of training hard and eating right. Many guitarists spend a lot of time trying to find out how to 'play like Jimi Hendrix' instead of practicing hard. The pursuit of a secret shortcut can sometimes take more time and energy than just doing what needs to be done.

I think the real secret is to work hard, consistently for a long period time. Have definite realistic objectives for your business, and don't stop until you have achieved them - no matter how long it takes.
