#1 Ranking with very few backlinks....

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by racing_dave, May 11, 2009.

i was out looking for some new parts for my motorcycle and searched for
ducati parts. #1 is currently listed as ducatiparts dot com. this just recently popped into the top 10 and is now #1. backlink watch only lists
    19 backlinks.

is the ranking of this site strictly based on the age of the domain ( registered in 2001) and the fact that my search and the domain name are the same?

also, i had seen this site before and it was ranking much lower. why the sudden charge to #1?

    Thanks
    -dave

Having an exact match domain does help with SEO but it's only one small factor.

An indirect benefit in having an exact match domain is many people will link to the website using your website name, which is keyword rich.

Google is constantly tweaking its algorithm. That's one of the reasons for everflux and the google ranking dance.

    Hi,

What about search volume and competition of this particular keywords? yep... domain age does matter because it shows that they are since long in particular business.

Not very high. Although I see the domain ranked #12 so the traffic would be negligible.

use yahoo site explorer to see the actual number of backlinks. moreover, the niche might not be so competitive.

I think that website has good on page, just check what onpage changes has been done on that website and try to do that changes in your website if possible.

The site's contents also matter a lot for the ranking. lot of sites can link to you to free I mean if you have a generic keyword like motorcycleparts.com it will automatically be in the eye of many people

Domain age seems to be of increasing importance to Google, I'm guessing that is because it's something that would be difficult to fake.

Check the links at yahoo. There may be more. Also look at the quality of the links: are they on good ranking, authoratative sites? Are the links well positioned on the pages, nestled in relevent content? Quality, as opposed to quantity, is the key for this I think.

I've noticed some sites that are 5+ years old come back from the dead.

The domain age isn't so important. More important (1) age of backlinks (2) age of site. So a domain that has been parked the last 10 years isn't going to give you a seo advantage.

The kw doesn't appear too competitive.

It looks like the site has fallen to #9

I agree w/ bogart. The kw doesn't seem that competitive. But then again - it has 779,000 returns on the niche "ducati parts".

Second part - I saw some Amazon ads - the iframes should leak some of that link juice out.

having the domain be an exact match and a dot com i'm sure is the main reason why

Google likes fresh content. The message boards hosted on seperate domains are providing relevant backlinks and should be getting crawled frequently.

To all of the websites the domain age is really one factor why it has a good ranking and also the domain name, but most of the websites that ranks in major search engines without the advantage of domain age and domain name the only thing that they can maintain their rankings is continues SEO.

The sudden change in SERP result is just google dance. Some times it make us crazy.

As for me to escape from the google dance the only way is wait more and continue the link building works slowly.

Domain age is important like the backlinks...

Google is really an active search engines, so results are very different than others (Yahoo, Msn, etc.). Backlinks are always important to build.
