$8000 to start my business -- what to do???

    Hi All!

    I've been given $8k to start my business - that's $8000. Whoowhoo! :)

I've been running websites for a few years now -- so i can code in php and design them etc - and websites are the way i want to go with my business.

I'm really thinking of using my $8k to make 100 niche websites -- then over the year keep adding content to each one (like a few articles each month)

So at the end of it, when they finally get out of the google sandbox -- i'll have 100 niche sites -- hopefully earning $1 a day each.

It would be a lot of work - but im sure each would earn about the $1, or even less. It would still be about $80 a day after a year.

Affiliate marketing - i've never had no luck, so i could lose most of my 8 grand.

Any advice, help or ideas would be amazing!!!

    Cheers! :)

My opinions to you is to start one website, that's right 1!
Make a simple landing page with a product.
    Advertise your site with PPC
8K is way more than anough to advertise your site. Just create a landing page that converts and start promoting it.
Then you can create some other sites... but make sure that you always succeed with the first one before creating the 2nd ;)

Make only 1 site, you will be better off with 1 than 100.
At most you should only make 3 or 4.
Remember the amount you will spend on hosting for each of those 100 you want to make as well.

Place 1k into an adwords account for advertising and go from there.

Guys -- The only problem i have with PPC and adwords is i've failed at it before! I've lost over $1000. I just couldnt seem to make it work :(

I have about 20 websites now, that make about $800 a month in total from adsense - so i think SEO and adsense would be my best option.

But i'm really open to ideas -- and i will ad the ppc to the list. It's just that i know it would be the hardest one to do (i think!)

Any more ideas peeps? Thank you!!! :)

I would go with CPA offers and adwords definitely.Make a decent website about one specific niche and drive traffic to it with SEO and PPC.

Or maybe make a forum,a decent one and use that money for promotion and after you can monetize your forum with ads.It requires almost no effort from your side after a few months.Get a contest up and reward your top five posters let's say with prizes every month,it will grow up in no time.I participated in this kind of a contest before and the forum had almost 1000 members, and over 10k posts in it's first month.Putting up a contest is a really effective method.

I agree with everyone here saying make one site. That one site could blow up and make tons of money with a budget like that, and proper marketing techniques.

It seems to me that if you could invent something unique.. $8k could get the idea seen thru to atleast a beta stage.. think yanno, twitter/facebook type of site or even something more simple like a facebook app.. develop an idea and hire a freelance coder to build it.. you may not change the face of the net but if you actually come up with something useful and you can get people's attention over it (which isn't too expensive if you came up with a fun/interesting idea) then you'd probably make back as much as a well-SEO'd Adsense-reliant site..

Aside from that I say build a ton of sites just like you're planning.. I don't go by the "don't build a second until the first succeeds" style of thinking because if I did that I'd never have succeeded! Failure's part of the game, I figure :)

Hope you can glean something from these thoughts, good luck to ya!

The first step is to understand exactly what you are good at? What do you enjoy doing? Before you start your own business the best advice I can give you is work in what you love.

Don't build 100 sites just for adsense! If at any point you mess something up and get one site banned all your domains might follow, building 100 sites is good business for people that know how to properly automate them. By the time you know how to automate 100 sites than you'll be able to build 1000, 10.000 and so on, but you'll never have a real business. (Even if you are making a huge amount of money :))

The first step again is to do what you love. Once you find out, learn how to make money from it, it might take a week or it might take a year. Before you invest all your money in your first idea test it, change it and test it again until you are 110% sure that it is bullet proof and it will generate an income over the years.

Believe it or not $8.000 can still do a lot online if you "invest" them slowly, don't go crazy and invest all of them in advertising you first month. We started some affiliate sites 5 years ago with less than $100 and are now generating $10.000+ a month, so just imagine what you could do starting with $8.000.

The second best advice I can give you is take it slowly. Don't rush it. Once you have thought of something, go out with your friends have some beers and ask them what they think, would they buy the service/product? Do they know other people that have purchased a similar service/product? Do the same with your family, girlfriend/wife, your neighbor, use this forum and others etc. You can also find great market research online for a few hundred dollars or less. Analyze your future competitors and see what they are doing.

Once you are completely ready, take a small part of the money, incorporate your brand/company and buy all the domains available for that brand. Set up your website and again start asking everybody what they think of it, the content and how you present the services/products. Set up your banking and merchant/payment system. Little by little start buying really affordable advertising. Test the ROI with those cheap advertising spaces. Once you find the advertising that provides the best ROI, start buying a little more expensive/quality advertisement and so on. If you do it properly and slowly you'll find yourself generating money before you spend the entire $8000.

If you would like our opinion on your ideas feel free to PM us and as soon as we have the time we'll be more than happy to give you our honest opinion.

I say you take the 8000 or at least the majority of it and invest into a unique already built site. Try to find an owner who doesn't want to run it anymore and take it from there, make sure it is making some money before hand, who knows you might stumble upon a gold mine.

IMO,one article each month is not sufficient.
You need to add at least 30 article a month to get better SEO ranking.
Why don't you spend the money to buy established site so that you no need to wait for one year to get income.

You mentioned you have 20 sites making $800/m, so average of $40 per, I'd say just spend the 8 grand on expanding what you've already done, as well as investing on those 20 sites you already have to try and boost the income a bit. Clearly this is what already works for you.

And as mentos said, you could purchase an existing site to make things move along quicker (if you're gonna buy a site though make sure it's not only making money for like one month and the seller wants to offload before profit goes down).

Wow! You're lucky to be given that amount. I agree with the others. Better improve and increase your earnings from your existing sites first then one at a time, develop more sites. Why don't you try to start a forum too then hire paid posters at first until you develop steady visitors ? Maybe it's another good idea. Just my two cents though :)

One site sounds good but having all of your eggs in one basket is dangerous. That said, having 100 sites is to diluted - try 2 o 3.

I agree with everyone. Start ONE website and focus on it.
Design a great website and hire web designers and graphic designers to help you in the process.
    Do something that you ENJOY.
Spend the rest of the money for advertising.
You gotta be smart with your money and spend it carefully. Don't rush. Take your time and be wise with how you spend.

Love all the ideas guys - thanks so much for the help!

I'm not sure about the "one" website idea -- i already have 20 websites, and i know how hard it is to make a single site into somthing decent that makes money -- a LOT of work (and luck?!)

If i do try and do one big site -- I'm thinking a "health and beauty" site, with a forum and blog -- and videos of me trying the products, doing reviews on youtube :) Plus loads of articles purchased on here each month.

Does anyone like that idea? or is the area too saturated??

I could back it up with 5 smaller niche blogs about the specific brands or somthing???

    Thanks again!

The money is in being "unique", ANYTHING unique will be great.

Maybe come up with a unique web 2.0 site, a unique bridge between facebook and the iphone, a unique graphic design site etc.

Health/beauty isn't a bad idea especially if you go with the videos ideas.. That gives it a much more personal touch. I think forums are kind of frustrating, personally. They either take forever to fill with ppl or I'm simply just building them wrong :) If you do want forums I bet you could get visitors to them easier if you had a heavily commented upon blog first.. that gives you sort of a 'pool' of visitors to go off of.

I think your key is finding a way to make your H/b site a daily essential. Something ppl will check daily regularity the way they'd scope the newspaper or CNN or that kind of thing. I say that because I'm assuming most H/b users are going to be using their products daily so are already somewhat 'ritualistic' people. If you could grab them in that area then you'd have something very attractive to advertisers and you could skip PPC ad systems in favor of big expensive ads from larger companies
