I noticed when google just did their last PR update that a lot of link directories lost their page rank. Do you think that google is making a push to do away with link directories and focus on more solid, relevant links? I know they are always moving towards this, but do you think they are making the push now?
Personally, I hope so... When directories come up higher in search results than the businesses you are actually looking for.... there's def a problem. Chucky
I don't see the directories coming up higher too often, but who really uses directories as a source of information.
Many directories managed to increase their ranks but those not promoting their website were of course expected to go down. I see a lot of new webmasters creating a directory and just leaving it at that, unless you are promoting any website, it can get backlinks, PR, traffic or revenue.
I think you are correct, i seen many directories loosing their page rank, but i don't think google will ignore directories at all, there are many directories which are worth getting link from. I don't think getting backlinks from useless Directories of any use.
