Obviously I can't talk specifics when it comes to Google, but I will say this:
I implemented the advice that Centerurope.org listed at the beginning of this topic and I have seen a dramatic improvement. To summarize here's what I did.

-Changed my large rectangles to 250x250 squares
-Reduced the number of ads on the page
-Made sure the colors blended with the site.

Specifically, I don't have any ads bigger than the 250 square and there is only one actual ad block on each page (but it is above the fold). I got rid of my sky scraper, all other ad blocks, and the majority of the links.
Now all I have is the one square ad and a 200x90 link unit above the fold, and a referral banner at the bottom on each page.

After I see that this works for a few days, I plan on moving the ad around to see how it performs.

Great tips! And if I happened to have said anything against AdSense TOS here, please let me know. They're pretty ambiguous about that stuff.

    ---EDIT ---
I saw these improvements in less than 24 hours

I think the 250*250 and the large rectange is pretty much the same. It depends on what fits better on your site.

Well, obviously they're not the same because of their sizes but I know what you mean.
Last time I checked (recently), Google reported that the 250x250 was their best performing ad block, and frankly it shows.

After testing, I guess the large rectangle was just too much for my site. The 250sq is much better for something like my site where the main content bar is not terribly wide.

Doesnt the Large Rectangle show 4 units, and the 250x250 only three at max? I like the 250 better also.

yes, I think the large rectangle shows four links at most (one in each corner or quadrant for you nerds). While the 250sq may display less, I get the impression that the links are more relevant and worth more/click. I think this is because the lack of a huge number of links inspires competition in advertisers.
    Competition = success!

Man sometimes my clicks are worth less then ONE cent each, I've seen 1 click = $0.00 before, and 3 clicks = 2 cents!

Then yesterday (on the same page), 13 clicks = $3.80, which is almost 30 cents each.

My CTR on Search is usually over 30%, for some reason yesterday it was at 80%+ On my Ads its only 3-4%

Its a little random how much you make sometimes..

This is basic information. Playing around with a few ad units wont make a difference if you aren't receiving the traffic in the first place. You need to work on building great content and relevant link building.

300 USD in 2 months from these simple steps? Really?

I don't understand DP these days - people are either far too easily pleased or are just trying to build up their post count as quickly as they possibly can.

I don't understand why everybody is looking for success patterns to follow; what works for me might not work for you; so the best way is to decide for yourself, test for yourself and earn for yourself

even if this could be good tips for making money with AdSense they won't work for all people here; just like I said before, every site has it's own audience and therefore some tips might work some might not.
it's up to each and every one of us to work hard with their AdSense and discover the best way to do it. Optimization however is key, considering that you have already good quality original content.
