Should Microsoft Release an Ad Based Version of Windows?

Do you think that Microsoft should release a free, ad supported version of their Operating System, (upgradeable)?

I think this could also help in their promotion of Live Search, which needs a jump start of some kind.

They would make money off of it. I would probably use it.

    What do you think?

It could work... I guess I could see this being somewhat viable, but I certainly would not use it

In theory it's a really good idea, but I think in practice those "Privacy Groups" would start making load of stupid noise.

I think a stripped down version with some support, but not great would work a lot better.

yes, but do you think they would offer that for free? Unless it were to support their Live Search or on hopes of people upgrading?

    Cheers,

because = sell once , earn once
lease it to them =earn forever.

ti started with Google ( remember Google docs)
and now a new service in UK called onlive.

no, it would be a bad idea. Most people used to windows will continue to use and upgrade, only way i see this to be good is for combatting with the current open source market like linux. But windows currently dominates linux

I would personally find that very annoying, and would never use it, I would just use linux or something instead, so I guess it would be a flop. Also, a lot of people would just find a way to remove the ads, and not only that, what if they don't have internet?

Bad idea the people who actually buy windows will continue to pay for upgrades, but if they release a free version then they're going switch regardless. Everyone else will just continue to download the newest windows via warez or torrents. I think they would lose more money.

The entry level Windows 7 OS, Windows 7 Basic will be able to run up to 3 apps concurrently and that's a bad idea already. How many apps would a base version be able to run at one time?
