Best whole disk encryption setup

    Hello everyone,

I am becoming quite security paranoid recently!

I need a full disk encryption system.

Windows Vista BitLocker I don't trust innately because Microsoft made it: (i) it's microsoft; (ii) my heart says there's a back door there.

I tried out PGP Desktop full disk at my work computer. It seems OK.

What do you guys use? recommend?

Price isn't an issue here because it is for my work system and we have an indefinite budget for this sort of stuff.

Could you give me some explanations about the different packages?

Also, most of these solutions don't offer plausible deniability, do they? What do you think the importance of this feature is?

    Thanks for your opinions :)

    TrueCrypt 100% recommended.

I use it in my work and home.

I also use it on my backup systems, so far echelon is having trouble doing some of the new algos :3

Ah, you recommend TrueCrypt - thanks very much.

And you trust it doesn't have a backdoor?

Do you mean that you trust governmental agencies are having trouble cracking TrueCrypt??

If so, that sounds like the sort of solution I need.

One thing I particularly like about TrueCrypt is its open source status. Normally I wouldn't care much, but in this case if there was a backdoor I'm sure someone would have rooted it out, with how many people use it.

As for the price, I doubt you are going to do much better and the solution is already free. Not only this, but no one can inspect the encrypting mechanisms of closed source solutions in order to determine problems (there could be unintentional coding problems which lead to vulnerabilities).

If TrueCrypt is used well, it can defeat govt forensics.

However thats all ill say to save my door hinges regarding that subject.

    Backdoors - Maybe.

TrueCrypt for sure. I would NEVER use a closed source system. I check the code, compile, use.

I use the Stealthsurfer flash drive with anonymizer for my security. And best of all all my internet activity is stored on the encrypted flash drive, not the hard drive. With IP masking, they can't find me at all.

Do you guys know that every other forum I talk about this stuff I was kicked off of? Lots of Yahoo computer groups. And others. All i did was talk about anonymous proxy, etc. Alot did not believe me, called me liar etc. It was unbelievable.
