beacuse if you build it, it's because you know they will come. Where would you build a Solarium? Vancouver or Sahara Desert?. If you build it in Vancouver, they will come. If you build it in the middle of sahara desert, the won't come. You might build it in Vancoubver, but never in the middle of the desert. How does this translate to websites? simple, if you are good and you provide something that people needs (a product, a reading experience, a feeling, a moment of joy, whatever) they will go, because it like a warm solarium in the cold city of Vancouver. If you build crap, not many people will want to go, just like nobody wants to be in the middle of the desert. And the little people that might go, the only thing that they will want is to get the hell out of there to never go back.
yes the statement rings true for me. if it's good and worth it, that is. Build it good, and they will come would be closer to the truth.
no. they won't. The web is LITTERED with GREAT sites that get virtually no traffic. To get traffic you need 2 things. Unique content and backlinks.
This statement was true at the beginig of the internet age when there not many websites around. Now I guess it is not so true anymore... maybe they will comeb but in very small numbers ;-)
This is true for brick and mortar companies who are in decent locations. However, online, this is not the case at all.
I believe that it is true. It goes along the lines of the attractor factor. If you build it, you believe it. If you believe it, you can achieve it. If your goal is to get people to come to you building, and you believe it, then you will receive visitors.
What is it referring to. Well, I know about the movie part, but you mean websites? That don't work at all...you have to build it then do SEO, THEN they will come.
Hell no ! That statement has never been proven more untrue than on the web. The design, content and overall idea of a website is the blood , sweat and tears of the average webmaster, and is what most people put all their passion into, but.....in the grand scheme of how the web works, it is just the beginning and almost the most insignificant part of starting a business online. SEO, Building Traffic and Marketing is what makes a website succeed, not ideas. There are a million good ideas out there that will never see the light of day because the people who have them, have no clue how to get it to the people that may be interested in it. We have all seen many, many....many websites that all seemed like good ideas, but didn't make it and are now in the blog and website graveyard that started in the 90's. If you build it and do nothing else..and it's a good idea that has promise....not only will they not come, but someone like me will see it, steal it, and make something out of it right underneath your nose whle you are sitting around wondering: "How come people aren't visiting..this is a great idea?"
It's false. If it was true, why would need a "marketing" forum? There are a lot of great websites out there with very informative content that never get seen. That's why we need marketing.
I agree. Unique content plus SEO, traffic and marketing are key to successful. You may have the most quality content on your site but if you don't promote it, how would people know it exists?
I thought that content, link building, and SEO was a part of building a Website....bad mentality to not think so...
I think this is a common mistake by new internet marketers. A great site alone will never get a single visit with some advertising. Advertising can be blog commenting, article writing, directory submissions.
the comment can be truew for some people but needs to be re worded "if you build it WELL they will come" putting together just any old site today even if it has a large audience and a good product will do little for attraction but a properly built one that has been researched for the target audience and human reaction an be true
