Twitter in domain name = lawsuit?

I just registered twitterprofiledesign.com and twitterprofiledesigns.com thinking a quick site to do what the name implies could be a good money-maker. Am I screwed though from a legal perspective with "Twitter" in the domain?

I Think if u are using it for services regarding twitter u shouldnt face any problem but if u are using it as thier competitor they surely might have a problem

I'd say yes, you are screwed - but not automatically.

But screwed in the sense you have no case, if Twitter decides they don't like the idea of someone using their name in another domain.

I've been doing a little reading online about it. It looks like as long as they don't care I'm OK. I figure I'll take a crack at creating the site/business channel and hope they view it as a favorable development of support business to their community. I hope!

Why take the risk of building a site/business on someone elses trademark? Its the equivalant of building a new house on sand. It could fall apart at any time.

I've seen loads of people selling/building sites with Twitter in the domain, don't be surprised if at some point Twitter just decide to take all these domains.

I wouldn't put "twitter" in a domain name, they might come after you. They did for someone who put "google" in their domain.

I wouldn't do it. However, there are dozens of Twitter application sites that use words like "tweet" and "twit" in the URL, that's safe to do as Twitter doesn't seem to have a problem with them.

wrong. twittersucks.com falls under free speach. There have been previous rulings on this matter with other high profile cases like paypalsucks.com. With such a site you are not building a business on someone else's good will but telling an opinion on it. It's not copyright infringement. What the OP tries to do however is. If it ever got to a court he wouldn't stand a chance. Most likely he'd be forced to just hand it over to Twitter if they asked for it, to avoid a 6 figure lawsuit cost! His business can end very abruptly and with no warning.

There is not a problem if you use the name of the company which exists.

Utterly false, why are you posting when you have no idea what you are talking about? Did you even read this thread?

Twitter displays advertisements of non-partners with domain names containing twitter in them, as well as program names with twitter in them. You shouldn't have an issue.

It's a bad idea to put a tradename in your domain name.

Whenever any company decides to get tough they just need to have their lawyer send a letter to you. If you are in the same country as them, you are worse off.

This is especially true if you become successful.

don't do anything you want to keep with this domain...on the other hand twitter doesn't seem to care about their brand or have figured out how to defend it.
