Have you realized that Ads on SMF are more relevant than those on V-Bulletin?In fact i know a Nigerian forum which used to make $110 when it was running on Vbulletin but currently making over $500 per day on SMF.Have you also noticed that?
I use the ad link units on my SMF syslog forum and it the ads appear to be consistently relevant. I can't comment on vbulletin, though. It is conceivable if the adsense bot is able to more easily pick out the "meat" of the topic from an SMF forum than from a VB forum, it would give more targeted ads - I have no idea if that is what's happening, though. I should note that every once in a while, I see an ad for "Log Homes" fortunately, those are not frequent.
So, I took a look around your site. I grabbed some of the key phrases that I found on some of the pages and put them into the google search engine, and none of the ones I tried came back with ads on the side. I am guessing there are two things working against you (not meant as a criticism, just observation) 1. The pages are pretty expansive in relation to the amount of actual "content", and I suspect google is having a hard time coming up with a "theme" of your site. I think there is a way to insert some tags around relevant parts of the site that will help adsense target the ads better. I have the "seo quake" plugin for firefox, and other than the insane amount of spam and crap if fills the screen with, it also has a cool tool to check the "density" of words on a given page. Words like "2009", "april", "topic", "google", "forum", members", "online", "new", etc, etc. are the top words on many of the pages. 2. I took a number of phrases from the site and searched for them in google, and not one of the phrases I tried came back with ads on the side, which probably means that there isn't a related ad to that term in adsense's database. I will say this, thought, I didn't see any really off topic ads. Most of the ads I saw, by far, were for dedicated servers. Occasionally, I saw a game related one. I did see a funny one, though, included with 3 ads for Dedicated servers:
Wow. First time i heard about SMF. I have always look for having a forum on my site but has never get over it since I don't know where to look for the good ones. Now I think I got a good look at these forum builders or software. Are these two really free to use? thanks JulieV
I agree, SMF is better in getting relevant ads than vB. But any website does get some irrelevant ads every once in a while.
What is SMF? SMF illustrations Simple Machines Forum — SMF in short — is a free, professional grade software package that allows you to set up your own online community within minutes.
Thank you! I've been screwing around trying to write adsense ads in maually for hours with still not working. I really don't understand php I guess...
You wouldn't have a link to where I can get that Mod, would you? All I found was this: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=255 and the download opens to a blank page...
