I just want to ask if is it really worth it? I'm planning to buy and my problem is I don't have knowledge in programming. Do I need atleast to study programming before buying this? Or is it user friendly where what you only need to do is to click, drag, type after the set-up? Anyone? Thanks in advance!
You don't need any programming knowledge to install and run vB. Have a look at MyBB (and all the other free forum software) before you pay for vB. http://www.mybboard.net/ Download it, install it, play with it. There are lots of free alternatives to vB, which imho are just as good.
you don't need to learn any programming to manage a VBulletin board. Yes, VB price worth it. At any time, if you need support, just open a support ticket ticket. They are very fast in support.
Kerosene what sepecific web host do I need to purchase for me to be able to use MyBB? I mean does it require specific language on the web host side? How about the database? is it easy to configure? and also can I put adsense on that? Thanks!
Just about every host will be able to run it. Yes! The reason I like MyBB is that the admin section is so nice to work with. Yep. You can either mess around with the templates (which doesn't sound like your kinda thing) ... or you can download a plugin to display ads on your forum, and/or even do revenue sharing. Before you go and buy vB, download XAMPP (to run your own local server), and try these free/open source alternatives: MyBB: http://www.mybboard.net/ SMF: http://www.simplemachines.org/ phpBB: http://www.phpbb.com/
vBulletin is worth it if you know how to add mods etc... if your new to developing I would recommend going with either phpBB or SMF just so you can get an idea then later on move to vBulletin.
I like how Mybb looks. Can you import the database easily between SMF into MyBB? Is there some kind of tool?
The problem with importing a SMF forum is the fact that the database is so highly encryped that you can get the usernames but not the passwords, so everyone has to reset their password once you import it. vB is the best paid forum software, however there are many free ones out there that will get the job done also, if you have the ability tho, investing in vB would probably be a good idea.
If its a sports related site I would suggest vbulletin, great mods like vbookie which is appealing to members, otherwise mybb, smf, and ipb are all good cheaper options that are really nice to work with.
If you need an advanced forum like DP, then you must buy VB. It depends on your requirements and budget.
