It's pretty simple. Put a nice description of the image into your ALT tag. Make sure the keywords for the image relate to the keywords on your page. It helps, as with all SEO, to get links to that image. Posting the images on forums is a good way for this. I used to work as a webmaster for an architectural studio and found it really ieasy to get images on the first couple of pages for the search term "architecture". Very competitive term but you'd be surprised how few people really optimise their images. I put good ALT tags for all images, something like "Architecture Abu Dhabi - Commercial and Residential Complex" (Note: No keyword stuffing here, just a good description) Then I would put embed the image in a forum post in an architectural forums. And that's it. Very simple and you can track how many hits you get from it via Analytics. We recieved good amounts of traffic from Google Images. Good luck!
