Hello DP members, I am a newbie, and I have recently created a website about Free advertising. Its for people to post their ads for free. So, there are no hits. I have got about USD 500 to spend. What is the BEST way to get the hits in ?
You need targeted useful traffic, proper SEO and internet marketing not simply hits to your website. If you want to drop a link to it you will get a better response. Nigel

Try some Twitter promotion combined with Clig Analytics (free) to target your niche audience. Just go to search.twitter.com and search for "free advertising." Before you reply to the people who are twittering about free advertising go to the Cligs site and turn your URL into a short clig. This will let you see exactly how many twitter members are clicking on your link, what country they are in, what all referring sites are, who is linking to it, etc. This will get you some traffic, now put that $500 in adwords and you'll be good.
If you can identify some good potential keywords, I would focus the $500 on SEO, there are plenty of cost effective services being offered on DP for this. Being that your site is based around free advertising, I'd also spread the word on forums like DP because it's something that will interest the DP audience and also become involved with other free advertising communities (eg Entrecard) because they should be very receptive to any free advertising.
I don't typically advise folks to give adwords a whirl until they know what they are doing as they will just be throwing cash out the window. Nigel

research, research, research. Its better to start learning as fast as you can, then have somebody jip you out of precious marketing money in my opinion. And dont pay for traffic. I've heard horror stories.
I think one of the available options for you is to hire writers who can write lot of useful content for your website. Adding useful content in your site will help increase its ranking in SEs. You can also hire someone to do article submission or directory submission for your site.
Buy yourself a good digital camera that can film video. Open accounts on sites like myspace, facebook, youtube, veoh, vimeo, break,,,,,, Start filming videos that match your sites content and post them on those sites. Besides the videos, you can use the camera to take pictures for your site. And then, in 6 or 8 months if you decide to close your site - you still have your camera.
Hi vmsemi112, You should try using article marketing & press release to get more traffic to your website You should optimize your website to get free and targeted traffic from the search engine. Maybe you can start a blog and update it from time to time so that your website will be indexed regularly.

Can you give your link? You can buy traffic on some cheap advertising network. You can get good traffic for free or low price on LongURL network. Description is here. Your must be target traffic because your site is specific. So it is not good to spend money for advertising on some news portals, politic sites... this kind of traffic would be crap for you.
