I have been trying to learn HTML, CSS, JS, & PHP through the last months & now I think I'm going to buy my 1st domain & open my site. As I'm new to this, I would like to ask some beginners questions. 1. How to determine the most suitable web host for me ?! 2. Which host provides the lowest costs & the best customer service ? (What do you think of godaddy ?) (Recommend yours) 3. My site should include single player games, but currently I'm working & learning how to make real time multiplayer games. Does this matter with the host I'm choosing or the package I'm buying ?! I have heard that sometimes you need to install your own software. Do hosts allow this ? Thank you for your time. Your replies are much appreciated.
1) There a couple of top-notch web hosts out there. I prefer hostgator and GoDaddy. GoDaddy has an outstanding customer support so does hostgator. The cons about GoDaddy is that they do not offer cPanel and you will have to deal with their Control Panel which might take you some time to cope to. 2) I would rather look @ the uptime and Customer support rather than cheapest. A couple of dollars more are worth to spend to make your hosting life easier 3) I am not sure what scripts you are using to develop your stuff. But you can take a look at the different hosting package they have to offer and diff features (perl, php ver., mysql database #s, etc) and make sure they comply with your needs
I think the best would to have a "trial" by getting one of those free hosting account here that gives them out. Build your site, determine the traffic a month or two and then take a look at serious hosting if you should need to. I think Hostgator is oversold, I chat with their technician and they are very slow to answer or not even answering, i heard that Godaddy has alot of downtime with hosting.
I do not recommend godaddy for hosting. I've been happy with hostgator. What are your games running on?
i recommended share hosting at hostgator or dreamhost but you should check first if all the required software to run you website is available. But if you want to install you own software then go for vps. You can find cheap unmanaged vps ....
Thank you very much for your replies. Actually, the replies were a little bit late as I have already bought the domain & the hosting service from godaddy.com. I have 3 flash games plus one big PHP/Javascript game.
1.Its depend on how you gonna use the domain let say if you wanna host 10 domain then you should buy a domain that have 10 add ons domain. 2.I'm using this hostingbunnys.com because their price is affordable. 3.If you plan to host real time games, then the best bet is buying at least a VPS coz shared hosting is not suitable for this.
Domain names are not expenssive, well, maybe .tv or some domains for countries are more expenssive than the rest but if you search for .com .net or .info it's cheap in most registrars. You can try godaddy, moniker, name ... you have many options.
