For a while now, Ad Sense TOS has required users to put disclaimers on their sites saying that cookies are collected in order to show ads. A recent change also requires that the disclaimers reflect a recent Google cookie collecting policy change. Have you made the appropriate changes to your sites that serve AdSense Ads?

It is good to have it. Gain some trust from some search engines.

Is Google banning accounts because they lack privacy policies?

I have just over 200 domains/sites (about 190 of them WordPress) and am preparing to spend at least two full days installing the WordPress Privacy Policy plugin on each site, one-by-one. I am dreading it but have a phobia about getting the boot from AdSense!

Yeah, it is required to put this on EVERY site that you serve AdSense ads on. Lots of people probably get banned for this because they don't have this on their sites. Anyhow, I just removed ads on an old site of mine that I was no longer using and didn't feel like putting a policy on. All my other sites have an updated policy. VERY IMPORTANT!

just copy this to your page!

    * Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on your site.
    * Google's use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and other sites on the Internet.
    * Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy.

Because publisher sites and laws across countries vary, we're unable to suggest specific privacy policy language. However, you may wish to review resources such as the Network Advertising Initiative, or NAI, which suggests the following language for data collection of non-personally identifying information:

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, click here.

You can find additional information in Appendix A of the NAI Self-Regulatory principles for publishers (PDF). Please note that the NAI may change this sample language at any time.

Since I have blogs, what I did when I first created my blog was make a post called Privacy Policy. I update the post whenever the policy changes. I have anchor text on my main page that points to my privacy policy.

I don't think you are allowed to link to an off-domain Privacy policy.

    Example:
blog.com/privacypolicy is good for blog.com but cannot be used as the privacy policy for website.com

There was a thread about 10 days ago that if you did not have a policy page there is a site that has everything you need just copy and paste it just change the domain name. I am sure if you use the search box on top it will show.

I heard from a reliable source that google takes this serious that they may consider banning you from adsense if you do not have one.

Do have any support for that? I have a number of sites and on most of them I just link to my over privacy policy.

Gawker Media does the same thing, as do some other multi-property internet groups I have seen.

The Walt Disney Internet Group does the same thing although it now appears that ESPN.com redirects to espn.go.com, ABC.com goes to abc.go.com etc so having the WDIG privacy policy on go.com would not violate your rule.

I don't see why, if you identify the website as a member of a group, you should not be able to link to the privacy policy of the group.
