Positioned to have a website with a 15 million keyword searches and 224 millions results on Google at the position 3. The first two positions are two Wikipedia articles, my website is Pagerank 7, but it is costing me a lot to overcome. I was overcome by search sites such as BBC, 2 sites .gov, videos on youtube ... but wikipedia seems impossible. It is possible to overcome the wikipedia or work for nothing?
Anything is possible with enough inbound links and the right variations of link text from the right kinds of sites. But Wikipedia is going to be hard to displace. Their site attracts LOTs of relevant inbound links and carries a LOT of domain trust with it which is one ranking factor you will likely never beat them at.
The wikipedia there different types of links, as mentioned above. However, it emphasized that the site is very good for a structure optimization, which further characterizes their position.
There is no "how to guide" on how to outrank wikipedia in the rankings. All you can do is follow the best of SEO advices and prove to Google your site is more relevant than the wikipedia article and also that your site is a credible source. THis is achieved by getting quality backlinks and by getting authority websites linking to you. That's the strength of Wikipedia, they have a lot of credibility and websites with a big authority are linking to it, with very relevant backlinks, anchor text, etc.
I have backlinks from, harvard.edu, columbia.edu, ucla.edu, stanford.edu, yale.edu, lii.org, dmoz, yahoo directory, botw.org, google directory, business.com, about.com, cnn.com, BBC, washigtonpost, New York Times a lot of .gov, w3.org, microsoft.com, and moreeeeeeeeee sites important sites...
Edit the wikipedia article and put your site as a resource. If you can add something genuine to the article with your site as the source you'll have no problems. Use yahoo's site explorer to see what internal links the article is getting from other wikipedia articles and see if you're site can fit in those too. And if you're willing to get dirty you can try editing the article you're competing with out of those articles you find with site explorer.
Wikipedia is a good friend of Google and it's considered by Google the best resource online. So, it will be hard to convince Google that your website is more credible even with tons of good back links. Anyway, good luck! You have to work very hard to achieve this goal. Tip: Try to search for any other thing which is in Wikipedia. It will be first position in Google search. Satisfaction Guaranteed.
