I experienced the same thing. Was #6 on page 1 almost immediately!! I was thrilled, until a friend told me about this "honeymoon" period. sure enough, within just a few days, I started dropping, despite the fact I was adding content daily and adding at least a dozen new backlinks daily.

Granted, I've not dropped much. I'm at position 9, 10 or 11 not any given day. But still not up where I want/need to be. I'm glad he warned me tho, or I would've been in a panic.

if for the same keywords still you are getting at least 800 visitors per day, no need to worry you carry on, you will dominate positions not over than 20.

Google actually does this to test the relevancy of a new site. If you get good CTR and the visitors surf your site and stay for long during the initial period of good ranking, which you term honeymoon, then they decide that this is relevant to the queries of search and you get a permanent stay in the SERPS.

If you don't get good CTR then they decide its irrelevant and take away the honeymoon status. Its just a tricky part of the algo.

Google Honeymoon! ...I didn't know they had a name for it.

But yeah, you're website will end up in the sandbox if it's new but enjoy your SERP's while you still can.

I have found with nearly all my niche sites, I can get on the first page easy peasy when I launch.

After about 5 days,,,I disappear to page 5 and beyond.

But give it two-four more weeks (with little or no work to site), I get back to where it was originally when it launched (normally page 1)

Bear in mind, all my sites are in small niches that are not really too competitive.

Well i think DMOZ is some kind of trademarked keyword, so you may land in trouble for using that keyword.
