I'm using wordpress as well. There are plenty of plug ins and themes floating about if anything doesn't work the way you want it to.

Wordpress for something simple, Joomla for more complicated sites.

    Also check out Movabletype

I use WordPress and it is good in many ways but it is very resource hungry if you have a busy site. I get ~15,000 WP page views a day which now requires a dedicated server. If the pages where static (other blogging engines can create static pages) a shared hosting account would of coped fine.

That's surprising they don't offer that. I'm not as clued up on blogs as I should be, but I was under the impression people started out with WP and then upgraded to MT as a paid soultion when they generated enough revenue. I'd have thought an easy way to import old WP posts would be vital.

I really don't see any advantage MT has over WP, regardless of the free/paid difference.

MT can create static HTML pages when you make a post whilst WP has to create the page each time a request is made. From a resource point of view it makes a big difference.

Yeah, I've noticed that most of the large blogs I see use MT so there obviously has to be a reason for them using a paid solution over a free one.
