Hey guys, I am extremely new (to twitter) and I don't really understand how people think it is so good for traffic. So my question is, how do you get traffic with twitter?
You get traffic by twitter by people "tweeting" it. I don't use twitter personally but I understand the concept as if you visit someone else page, make a USEFUL comment (not spam) and tweet their site, they will do the same for you. It's pretty much the same concept as Digg. Traffic just won't magically come to your twitter page. My recommendation would be to go other peoples pages, make useful comments and than hope they return the favor. If your page isn't on the first page of Twitter it won't get any natural traffic (same concept with search engines too)
It's all about following. I have people following me and what I do shows up on their timeline profile. Also, what you do shows up on the main Twitter page. The more people you have following, the more interest you get in your site/blog/forum or whatever it is you are twittering.
Never has the old Irish phrase "follow me up the road and I'll be up after you" been more relevant! If you start following people with related Tweets, then they will usually return the favour. Before you know it, you'll start growing a worthwhile Twitter network. Good luck!
I have been doing twitter marketing for a while and do get some traffic. There are lots of tricks on it. PM me if you are interested in it.
I've been on Twitter for just a few months now and the way it brings you traffic is that it brings more exposure to your site or blog. When you set up your profile, you can put the link to your site there, along with a small bio about yourself. Then when you start posting "tweets" which is just a short statement, less than 140 characters, people on Twitter can see what you posted. If you post something of value, something interesting, something funny, something with a positive message, you will attract more followers. You can post a link along with your message, a video from YouTube, etc. or even a link to your own blog or site, but if you do that, just make your post relevant to your site. Once you start posting, people will start to follow you. Try to follow the people who follow you back, as it's courteous and you would want the same. But if they aren't someone you really want to follow, if you don't like what they are posting, you don't have to follow them. You can also find people on Twitter to follow. You can also search down at the bottom of the site, and put in a keyword to search, such as "cooking" or "help the evironment", etc. and it will bring up all posts or tweets that had those words in them. This way you can follow a certain niche of people that you want to attract. You can send a message to someone who follows you, it's called a DM, but when you send the first DM, just thank them for following you and let them know you look forward to seeing their tweets, or something friendly like that. Many people make the mistake of sending a link when they first send a DM to someone, which can turn people off. You're more looking to build a relationship or friendship through Twitter, rather than spamming. Then when people start watching your tweets, they will look at your profile and see your link there, and most likely go check out your site or your blog. I didn't know anything about Twitter when I first signed up, but I've really grown to love it, and use it daily. There are many online tools for Twitter that can make using it easier, more automated. You can do a search online to find out more answers about how to use it. If you click on the link in my signature, you'll find a button to follow me on Twitter on my page, I will follow you back! I hope this helps explain so it's more clear, Beth
The more followers you get - the more access you have to them. If you have 20000 followers - when you send a tweet - it goes to everyone. That is a lot of people to get instant access to. Just like any online community - thats what it is - a community and spamming it or trying to ram products down people's throats won't work.
Not necessarily. I have way more following me than me following others. It depends on what you are tweeting. If it is interesting to others, they will follow you.
If you have a blog, whenever you made an entry, you can tweet it to your followers, and they will visit your blog.
